Anyone have experience with this ammo?

Getting my hands on lead free 357 magnum ammo for hunting in California this year has been extremely challenging, but I was finally able to get some of this. It's a 130 grain Monoflex projectile. Hornady rates it to "medium" game (up to 300 lbs), which seems a little optimistic.

I think I'd be confident using it on deer, but would you dare on hog or goats?

Not trying to be Smart here but being as a .22LR will drop a hog or a goat I'd say a .357Mag wouldn't have a problem with either....

Also "In Theory", the .22LR will drop a deer also... Just Sayin'....

Haha. Well I've certainly heard believable "theories" about eye socket shots with small calibers, but between being a mediocre shot and a worse tracker, I'm hoping to get a nice bloody exit wound, even if I hit bone on the way through.

I have killed a number of deer with a .357 carbine. If you keep the range reasonable and put the bullet through the lungs, the animal will die quickly and you will have a good blood trail. That said, the Hornady folks state 1250 FPS with a 130 grain bullet and an 8" barrel. That is a pretty "wimpy" .357 round. With that in mind, I would be holding out for a broadside shot. Do you have access to reloading equipment? If so, maybe look at the Barnes bullets and turn up the FPS a bit.

Picked up the Hornady from my FFL today, and GOOD NEWS!

The info on the website is incorrect. The box states 1475 fps, which translates to 628 ft.lbf for a 130 gr projectile. The hollow point is also quite aggressive, with 8 sharp little teeth. Haven't shot them yet, but feeling a lot more confident they mean business.

Back in the day, I shot a lot of hogs in Ca. with a revolver. Mostly .357, but also .41 long Colt when I was in high school, 'cause that is what I had. We hunted at night, mostly, and had dogs. Memories.

To be honest, I'd rather be looking at a non-expandable bullet, like this one for instance;

agree that penetration is the name of the game. california requires lead free projectiles, so my first choice would be Xtreme Penetrators, but i haven't seen them in stock anywhere for months, unfortunately.

The BB Outdoorsman ammo has a hard cast aluminum bullet, no lead
