7.62x39 Hornady Zombie Max
Buried in the back of my 7.62x39 "specialty ammo" stash I found this 20-round box of Hornady "Zombie Max" steel-case 123 grain Z-Max. Think I bought this somewhere around 2012. I'm sure it's been discontinued, so it's not for shooting, it's just for looking at, but I have it, just in case the dead guys attack.

That was a one-time sales gimmick around Halloween several years ago. It is normal Hornady 7.62x39 in funny packaging and a different bullet.

Hornady seems to be the industry leader for clever marketing names for ordinary ammo.

I regret not buying some of this ammo several years ago when it was still available. I knew that it would be discontinued then likely become collectable someday, but there was an ammo shortage at the time, and I didn't have the money to be spending on boxes of novelty ammo. Besides, if I did then I would have just bought some Lehigh Defense Xtreme Penetrators.
Still, I wish I had just bought a small box of whatever I could find at the lowest price possible. Even if it never becomes worth anything, I'd just want it for the sake of collectabability.
Oh well, at least I still have my Zombie Knife...
So I'm well prepared for a Zombie Apocalypse...

Way back when I bought 500 Hornady 185gr 45acp ZOMBIE! bullets for next to nothing at Midway: same as the FTX in their Critical Defense line, but with a green vs. red plug...
Been my standard SD choice for reloading for years!
Cheers!

Zombie green was the thing some year’s ago. I’ve got a brick of those 123 gr bullets but have only used a handful.

Ahh yes, Zombie max ammo. I have a box of .40 squirreled away.
I was thinking about the whole Zombie craze recently. does anyone remember about when all of that happened? did it all start around 2009 or 2010? It must have lasted 3 or 4 years as memory serves. I remember many of the gun channels on YouTube were all zombie all the time for a few years there. it was weird times for sure

Started about 2002 with the 'Resident Evil' movie, then peaked around your mentioned 2009/2010, then the movie 'World War Z' (2013) seemed to end zombie movie popularity.
