Hey guys. Does anybody know what the suggested velocity range is for winchester silver tip bullets to perform as designed? My buddy just built a 9mm pcc with an 8" barrel and he is concerned that the velocity increase over his glock may not bode well for the silver tips. Anybody have any info on these?

May not help but I shot an antelope with a 45ACP and 185 grain Silvertips. It took 8 shots to get it dead. I recovered 5 of the bullets and they showed textbook expansion but loose jackets. I also use cartridge adaptors in some of my high-power rifles. This year I shot a buck mule deer with a 30/06 and used my 30-06 x 32 ACP adaptor to finish off the deer. I used a 32 ACP Winchester Silvertip to administer the finishing shot to the neck, The recovered bullet showed complete expansion, but the core was loose in the jacket. Cronographed velocities of the little 32 round out of a 24" rifle barrel was @1,150 fps IIRC.
These are the only ones I have on hand. Box says: "Muzzle 1010fps, 1005 @ 5yds, 985 fps @ 25 yds. Joe
I like the STs. Pretty bullets. But todays STs aren't like those of yesteryear. Don't think it will make a hunting round out of the 9mm. May add 80 FPS to velocity. I didn't use STs but used Rem 230 gr Golden Saber HPs on an elk...short range...under 50 ft. Left side boiler room just pop pop pop. cover 'em with your hand...all under the skin right side took 3 steps. Even an antelope should get heavy handgun bullets. I have one of the adapters for 32 ACP for 30-30..I shot a PD with a Win 32 ACP Silvertip at about 10 yards. Pretty anemic....and I happen to have 5 or 6 boxes of them. I have shot some of them..fairly accurate but somewhat underwhelming as far as terminal performance. I do like the 115 Gold Dot bullets in the 9mm. I carry them in my Sig 365
Befor you use the 9mm pistol for hunting game over 100 pounds, at 30 yards or more;
you might set up three new, 1 gallon water jugs, at that range and see what your hunting load does.
Even my M49 revolver with the 125 Gold Dot +P load at just 30 feet, was dreadful.

Worry not guys. He has no plans on hunting with a 9mm. Just wants to make sure the velocity gain in the longer barrel wont cause the silver tip hollow point to fragment instead of expanding. Only reason the question is regarding silver tip 115gr is because he went out and bought whatever cheap hollow point ammo he could find and wants to make sure that they work. I told him he should have just bought Underwood xd since the velocity gains can really only help it and he doesn't have yo worry about expansion.
Thank you for the input guys. I will tell him that his silver tips will perform pretty much the same out of his new pcc as it does in his glock 17. Hes probably gonna end up buying the Underwood anyway and just relegate the Silvertips to back up shtf ammo.
