Federal vs Norma .22lr’s in S&w’s
What have been your personal experiences of the below ammo in mod 617, 17,or 18
Federal Target vs Federal Auto Match (Blue, vs white 325rnd box) vs Norma Tac .22.
These are regularly available locally and are relatively cheap.
I got a couple boxes of the automatch back when that was all I could get, and while reliable, accuracy seems rather, hmmm- okay, but not spectacular. Either of the other two options any better?

22's are notoriously famous for "liking what they like" with each seemingly different.
With that said, I would use the Federal target 22.
The only experience I have with Norma, was taking her out a few times in 11th grade, and I wound up wishing I could shoot HER out of a 22.

My son bought me 4 boxes of Federal Auto Match my Ruger 10/22 likes it ... my S&W Model 41 shows indifference , not it's favorite .
My three revolvers like it and are as accurate as anything else .
Every gun has it's favorite ammo and Federal Auto Match is not bad ammo especially if you get a good price .
I much prefer it to Winchester Super-X !

During the last ammo shortage I purchased quite a bit of the Norma Tac .22 . It was available and the price was pretty reasonable . In fact I still have several bricks in stock .
It's actually pretty greasy and would leave my Model 17 quite a mess after use. I kept a towel handy to wipe my hands with during use.
For that reason alone I quit using it in certain of my guns . It was reasonably accurate and reliable in any of my rifles and worth the $ 35.00 a brick I paid for it at the time.
It would not cycle properly in any of my Ruger Mark II's .
I shoot mostly CCI Stnd Velo in my S&W 17 . It's pretty clean and reliable and readily available at a reasonable price ...at least for now.

The Norma Tac-22 shoots well in my Tikka T1X, and the Norma Match 22 shoots even better. Seems to be more consistent and slightly better groups than CCI SV. As noted above, it is more 'greasy' than CCI SV.
I have not tried it in my handguns, as the accuracy improvement over CCI SV in a handgun is not that significant, and CCI SV is cleaner.
Best way to find out is buy a couple of boxes and see if your guns like it...

Never shot any Norma 22. Can’t recall ever seeing any.
The cheaper oddball I have only recently shot is Aguila.
Made in Mexico, it does goes Bang!
And functions reliably in the several guns I tried it in.
But man is it Dirty!
You get a puff of Black Smoke like your shooting 22 Black Powder!
Just looking at some range notes -
Recently had a Aguila FTF in my SIG P22.

My club has a huge stash of Federal Auto Match. It's garbage. It runs reasonably well in the Smith ARs. Pistols are very hit or miss. Misfires are frequent. Accuracy is average at best. The CCI standard velocity we have is far superior.

Aguila, brings back memories. We first got our 92FS’s, brother and I ran thru the 9mm like water. The little cardboard boxes, packaged just like the older boxes of .22 every other rnd upside down.
Thanks for the input, I’ll try a couple boxes of the Fed Target.

For me, CCI standard velocity is the most accurate and reliable in my M41, M18 and M63. I have a few Colt revolvers that like the CCI Mini-mags. I also find that the Federal #510 HV is very close to the Mini-mag in rifles with the same configuration. American Eagle's HV 40 gr. is right up there as well.
I have a few rifles that actually like the Winchester "promo" Wild Cats. Most of my handguns will shoot OK with any ammo, however none shoot as well as they do with what I have l listed above. Ely does not work well for me in any gun I own. I stay away from most of the Remington line although I will admit to not having tried any since they were purchased a few years ago - hope fully they have vastly improved.

Norma 22
I`m a thumbs up on the Tac 22 Norma. All 3 of my Autoloaders (Ruger 22/45, S&W Victory, and High Standard Supermatic Citation) like it. It does feel greasy but once you`re past that it shoots great.

S & W revolvers seem to do fine with any ammo. I bought a lot of it when obummer was in office and there was a "shortage". I didn't see any Norma for sale (I would have bought it) but I have every variety of CCI W/W Federal and Remington there is. Any of it works fine in my Model 17-4 and my Model 35.
My Ruger autoloader is a bit more picky but that is not the question.

"Federal Target vs Federal Auto Match (Blue, vs white 325rnd box) vs Norma Tac .22."
They're all available at good prices?
Buy a small supply of each, try them, and return to buy more of the type that works best. If the same, buy the cheaper brand. Problem solved!
