Default Ruger LCR and a $10 flea market IWB holster (pics)....

A few months ago, I picked up a Ruger LCR .38 Special revolver from a friend who bought it, never fired it, got tired of it, and sold it to me. I immediately appreciated it's light weight, great trigger and accuracy. I once owned a S&W 640 hammerless revolver, and feel the Ruger shoots and carries a lot better.

When I got the Ruger LCR, I picked up a cheap Uncle Mike's holster for it until I could find a better holster, started carrying it in the front zipper pocket of my fleece jacket, and a HKS speed loader in the other pocket. Found it to be a great combination when you definately want deep concealement.

Well, I found a better holster for it at the flea market yesterday, a guy had a Rossi five shot .38 special on his table for way too much money ($300!), with a nice leather IWB holster. Got him to sell me the holster for $10, it's made by a holster maker in Portsmouth, Va., Backwoods Leather, if you go to gun shows in Virginia you see him set up selling holsters. Pretty good quality, I've owned a few of his holsters before. It is molded to fit the revolver, so there is some retention. Holster was made for a "J" frame Smith, but fit the Ruger perfectly.

Here's some pics:

The Ruger won't replace my primary carry piece, a 2" Model 64 cairried on the belt in either a Bianchi #5 or a Don Hume Slide, but it's a dandy when social situations require deep concealment. I remember going to my Aunt and Uncles house with a revolver on my belt, concealed by an untucked shirt. My Aunt gave me a big hug, put her hand on my revolver, gave it a tug, gave me a look, and said nothing. They know Im a gun enthusiast, so it was no big deal, but I was a little embarrased.
