First off, I don't have any revolvers.

My wife just bought a 642 and now wants me to help her find her a holster. My question is, a lot of the makers sites I have seen don't have a 642 listed specifically. Are there other models that would be comparable that it would fit in, or would a holster for any J frame work?

Any j-frame holster will work except those equipped with a hammer strap.

You might consider a holster from one of the Forum members who manufacture holsters or something like a Galco CON158 (OWB) or UDC158 (IWB) with a j-hook.

Hope this helps.

Be safe.

Do you know how she's looking to carry (IWB, OWB, purse)? My wife's going to try a Remora IWB as soon as her CHL comes in. They've gotten really good recommendations on this site. I carry OWB in a Blackhawk Speed Classic made only for J Frames.

Oops, don't know how I forgot the Remora. And I have one! It is an exceptional holster; I highly recommend it, too.

Be safe.

I should've mentioned she is thinking IWB behind her hip about 3:30 - 4 o'clock.

642 = 442, 640 (early .38 special only), 40, etc. Any Centennial type .38 special (non-magnum) holster will work.

The Remora is a great option except when using the restroom (don't drop the gun/holster!). I use a Kramer IWB clip holster a lot. Galco has a few options for IWB too.

That is about where I carry. Holsters cited will do well. If she likes OWB, she will likely find the Galco quite suitable.

But do be sure to check the offerings from vendors who are Forum members.

Be safe.

Look up Simply Ruged holsters on their web site. They make a great line of pancake holsters that can be worn inside the waiste ban also. They are very well made and great quality.

Get a Mika Holster for your 642

This is the best pocket holster for a 642 you can get. It is waterproof, thus protects the finish of the gun, it is closed on the end so it doesn't get lint from your pocket, and it conceals the gun better than any I have tried. I've used a high dollar Galco pocket holster, but it was opened on the end and didn't conceal as well.

You can find Mike online and order. He is great to deal with.

I wear my 442 OWB in the same position but you need to consider your wife's wardrobe. Other than jeans, very few of my wife's outfits have a belt, so the Remora is working out really well. Many IWB holsters still clip onto a belt so they wouldn't work for her.

I have used a mika pocket holster for my smith snubbys for several years, half the LAPD has Bu guns in these holsters, hard to beat and very inexpensive.

Simply Rugged pancake with IWB straps.
