USAWC-Use of deadly force and implications - YouTube

The presenter was recommended to me by a friend and LE trainer who served in the same area in the Sandbox. There is a lot of good info to take from this. Some has to do with the legal and ethical issues in use of lethal force. Some has to do with the poor training and socialization that does not overcome common misconceptions, and serious mindset and ignorance at the top levels that contribute to the problem. (In LE, the positions asserted by command personnel would be grounds for serious discipline, and likewise probably should be in the military.)

Before anyone with a .mil background gets annoyed with me:

I have seen a bunch of that as an LEO working with military personnel in joint operations.

I have heard of more and worse from persons who entered LE after being in the military, and who are thus qualified (far more so than I) to make such comparisons and draw such conclusions. LE use of force is not like military ROE, and drawing on ROE to evaluate the 4th amendment issues in a patrol function use of force is not appropriate. (Corrections use of force is not 4th amendment, it's 8th and 14th, a non-issue here.)

The presenter is among other things an O-5 JAG officer with a broad background in the military and civilian legal fields, including LE service. The friend who first introduced me to the man's teachings told me that as a JAG in a war zone, the presenter found that the only people who really had a clue about use of force were reservists with LE backgrounds.
