Which S&W Revolver Do You Carry Most?

Most of the time it's a Model 12 in a OWB holster. I like the light weight and six rounds.
Other times it's my Model 36 or 37 in a OWB also.
I wear my work shirt loose and untucked, so I usually carry OWB with my revolvers, and semi autos

Why would you rotate your carry gun? I'd want to carry the same thing always, the same way always, so when it comes time to use it, I don't have to think about what I'm doing or what day it is.

I don't know about others, but the reason I carry different types/rotate is to have the best tool for the situation.

642, of course.

These are my main 3 at the moment, and have been for a few months:

Sig P938 50% of the time. IWB appendix, pocket, and OWB 4:00.

Ruger LCP 25% of the time. IWB appendix and pocket.

S&W 642 25% of the time. IWB appendix and pocket.

My 442 goes with me everywhere I go in one of my own holsters. Usually on my belt but every now and then it'll ride in the right front pocket of my cargo shorts.

Only problem I have is that I wear a black leather belt, so I need to either make a matching brown belt or a matching black holster.
I'll probably make a black holster, I have a heck of a time trying to match browns.

Do you have a crystal ball? How do you know what the situation will be? I carry the same gun everyday. If a gun won't handle anything that would or could happen, I wouldn't own it let alone carry it.

Depending on what I'm doing that day, my choice will vary. For example... I carry my LCP when I kayak because it's the most comfortable and I wouldn't care too much I by some chance I went for a swim with it.

As far as "having to think" about it, I'm always aware of what gun I am carrying and in what condition, so that's a non-issue.

Situation might not have been the best word for me to use, but I don't have a crystal ball. Sometimes I have to wear a tucked in shirt and do lots of bending so it's just the 642, but most of the time I can carry a larger handgun that I can shoot better so I carry that.

Also, for me no one gun fits all situations, some get close though. All this just might be my brain trying to justify getting more guns. :D

I have a couple of semi-auto's I like to carry, but for me, it's revolvers at least 90% of the time.

And the one that gets the most travel time is this one;

I snagged it at an estate auction several months ago. Some might say that it needs to be in a collection or on display, but the guns around here have to work for a living. :D

Just found out this morning that S&W is making the 642 without an internal lock again, and I have one on the way, so this might change shortly.

The last two posters showed pics but didn't say what the guns were.

Maybe it's obvious.

Or are my mind reading skills slipping?

My mistake. I actually thought it was obvious, because it was this forum that helped me identify it. :D

It's post-war transitional M&P, shipped February 1947.

Semi auto 90% of the time in an OWB snap-loop Lobo Leather holster. I mostly carry a 6904 but will rotate with a 3913 or an M&P 357c or 40c. The 3rd gens share the same holster and I have another (same style) that the M&P's share. I will occasionally carry a revolver and when I do it's either a 65 or a 66 both in 3"...they also share a holster. There is the odd occasion when I will carry a 1911 E series Sc 4 1/4" but that would be a cold weather gun under a heavy coat and more of a BBQ gun...again...Lobo Leather.

Except for the 1911 all these guns are draw and shoot with no safety...in the case of the 3rd gens carried hammer down off safe.

For those who want to carry only one gun for the sake of familiarity I say "fine". As for me I like to mix it up a bit and am very comfortable with all the guns in my rotation. If I find that I need a gun anything I happen to be carrying will do just fine.:p It's a different deal entirely for LEO's.

I notice that the OP uses the word rotation like it's a normal or proper thing. It is not. I don't always carry the same gun, but I recognize that that is partly a bad thing, and I shouldn't do it without a good-enough excuse. In my case, it is usually about clothing.

If toting a gun were more important to my health than I think it is, I would probably be stricter. As it is, there is now pretty much one [main] gun I carry when I'm serious, at which time I will also generally carry my regular backup.

As toys, or for practice, I use a lot of guns. I believe that it is best to have a familiar sight picture and trigger pull when carrying for real.

I don't think that we should use words like rotation, leading people who haven't yet learned better to think that that is some kind of normal practice.
