CC suggestions for a suspender wearer
Hi all,
I have a M&P 9 and would like to carry it concealed at the waist. Problem is my personal horizons have expanded to the point I wear suspenders instead of a belt. Can someone recommend a holster to use in this situation?
Thanks
Tom

I think you're going to be limited to a clip on, maybe a Bianchi

I'm not too proud, at my age, to wear both a belt and suspenders. I just received a pair of the Duluth Trading Co. side clip suspenders and plan to see how well they work with a belt to carry a Model 10 OWB.
My problem is a combination of Dunlap's disease and OGDD--old guy's disappearing derriere.

I was going to suggest the same thing, being a "belts & braces" kinda guy. I use Perry Suspenders, which also clip onto the belt.
I would think that without a belt, a gun in a clip-on or paddle holster might flop around a bit on the relatively thin fabric of your britches, although the outwards pressure of your "expanded personal horizons" might offset that a bit .

Have you considered a Pocket holster?

Another recomendation for the Belt AND suspenders aproach.
To think out of the box , a "belly band" , worn at waist level ( as they should anyway). You will have the reholstering issues inherent to this mode , but a full size pistol can be carried in same position as would be with an IWB , and with great concealment.
Or while still outside the box , a fanny pack, if that wouldn't violate the no pants belt rules. Subject to the usual fanny pack issues , but you could wear one even if otherwise naked.

I wear a belt and suspenders. No problem. My suspenders hook onto the belt anyway. I tried the ones with alligator clips and I hated those blinking things. They were always pulling loose, always in the back...I think the ones I wear are made by Dickies. Anyway I got them at Wal-Mart I'm sure.

There is a gentleman at the Tulsa Arms Show that sells a set of suspenders (braces, "straps") that have an optional holster that replaces one of the lower pieces of the suspenders. I have that option for a J-Frame. As long as you are wearing something to cover the holster it works well.

I know bib overalls are considered " hick, or redneck ". But being somewhat portly myself, and disabled, and at the age where I don't care what people think, I've found I can conceal a full size S&W 915 in a back pocket as long as I have a coat or " Hoodie " over the 1/2 inch of it that shows. Otherwise a J frame in a pocket.

I'm in the belt plus suspenders (Perrys, under $10 at Wally World) crowd, and I carry a Glock G22 in a Galco KingTuck IWB holster...very, very comfortable.

Pocket carry comes to mind as well but that might necessitate a smaller pistol. Good excuse to go shopping . . .

I have found quite a few IWB holsters draw with the gun if I wear no belt. Including my King Tuck for my 637 J Frame.

Any idea how to find out who that is? I just tried to pull up a vendor list but had no luck.

Occasionally, I use this shoulder holster to carry my 9mm Shield. Very adjustable and snaps can be set for a thumb break. Mine is stable without having to anchor either side, which is why I use it when wearing braces.

I have worn Perry suspenders (the "dress" style which is a bit narrower but still plenty strong and durable) for several years. I carry a TTGunleather Slim XC IWB holster all the time. It has two belt loops that secure it to my double thickness belt and covers a good bit of space centered at about 3:30 or 4:00 on my right side. There is plenty of room for the right front belt clip and the rear one clips astraddle of my center rear belt loop. This combination has worked very well and very comfortably for me for a long time. The suspenders help hold every thing up in place and the good belt does not sag at all so I don't have to wear the belt so tightly around my waist. Like I said, it's very comfortable and I don't have to be hitching up my britches all the time.

I do envy the guys that actually have a waist and can keep their pants up.
I have a hard time with any weight in my pocket at all. I don't wear suspenders but will cinch my belt up tight and put an LCP in my front pocket. If it's cool I carry a 642 in my jacket pocket.

Papa Tom, welcome to the forum.
If you're willing to carry inside the waistband, have a look at two Alessi Holster offerings: Talon, and Watch Six.
Both these holster use a clip I haven't found elsewhere that functions with or without a belt, clipping directly (and snugly) onto the pant's edge -- rather than over the belt -- to hold position; I can personally attest to their effectiveness at remaining in place while drawing.
Caveat: Alessi makes great products, but aren't particularly fast or communicative; I do think the clip they use will solve your problem though.
Ritchie Leather, a company born of some former Alessi staff, does have similar holsters that appear to use the same clip, but I can't vouch as I've never used them.

Suspenders are great! I've always carried a full sized 1911 or something of a larger caliber on my belt. I've always had something to help me keep my pants up, especially with a holster on my hip. It takes some trial and error to find the right combination for you.

I wear the Perry suspenders with a belt. I have used this method for years. I wear the suspenders under my knit shirt and living in Florida I don't wear an undershirt. I carry in an IWB Milt Sparks Summer Special holster. Occasionally someone will pat me on the back and feel the suspenders and ask if I am wearing a back brace. I just say no, I need suspenders to hold up my pants. They laugh and I laugh and I don't tell them the suspenders also hold up the gun in my waistband.

That Perry stuff really looks like the ticket. I have a set of regular Perry suspenders and that clip of theirs that hooks under your belt is just the thing. I see now they have several shoulder rigs using the same clip.
I'm sending a request to see if they can do them for lefties.
The Perry UBEE is for sure available for a lefty, got an email this morning.

Thanks for the great info guys, I'm leaning toward the belt/suspenders route, but plan to check out Alessi too.

I have suspenders MADE to wear with a belt. I'm not certain where the vanity or convention came from making it an oddity. Western style suspenders and others are designed for belt use. I met some dumb woman in Las Vegas who went on about her hubby. And even she couldn't explain this Jr. High attitude. Maybe it's a function of age, but I wear what I wear. I wear camp shirts over white or flesh colored suspenders in the summer and a clip on IWB or a web belt. My new model 37 will be my summer pocket carry, with suspenders.

BTW check out the suspenders store online and their $40 western line. Best heavy duty suspenders ever! I did have a heavy duty button set in black that no longer fits. We're $40 never worn. Made for someone over 6' with 42 or larger belt size. Trade for any thing 38 special related.
I also buy suspenders rivet type buttons to convert heavy weight jeans to button suspenders. I find button suspenders to be the most comfortable and reliable.

Hold Up Suspenders
I too have found myself wearing suspenders. My choice has been their hip clip model. Two points of attachment (at about the side seam of the trousers) They offer a plastic clip ( that holds really well, along with other options.
These are of the so called "trucker" style. I "carry" very near to the attachment point of the suspenders & this works very well for me.
