I have accquired these four guns over the las t several years for the purpose of concealed carry. I have shot all of them quite a bit, but today was the first time I took them all to my farm range for a back to back comparison. All of my shooting was from pocket carry at 4 yards, alternating between point and shoot and then using sites, double taps, silohuette targets Here are my observations:

642 - Pretty concealable, partially due to the hammerless revolver shape. Boringly reliable. Able to put all shots on target with point and shoot. Able to put a couple in the 10 ring with sites. Recoil is significant but acceptable for close encounter self defense use and short practice sessions.

LCP Custom- Most concealable of the group, probably its' biggest asset. Point and shoot accuracy was not all that great. All shots were on the target but usually low due to the way the small grip fit my hand. With sites I could put the majority of the shots in the 10 ring. Recoil was significant due to size and weight, but not as much as the 642. Cycled reliably.

LC9S - Maybe a little large for pocket carry, but it is a 9mm. Had to remember the safety. Point and shoot accuracy was pretty good with most shots in the chest area. Accuracy with sights was excellent due to the very nice trigger. Recoil was snappy and the trigger would always pinch my finger. Cycled reliably.

Glock 42 - Not as concealable as the LCP but not bad in the pocket. Point and shoot accuracy was very good, best of the group. Accuracy with sights was outstanding, again best of the group. Recoil was very pleasant and again the best of the group.
It also cycled all ammo reliably.

After I finished with the comparison, I shot the Glock 42 another 50 rounds just because it was so accurate and so enjoyable to shoot. IMO it was the only one of the group that could double for defense and as a range gun. Its superior accuracy makes it a good farm gun to dispatch small varmints.

All are good guns, but I think the Glock 42 gets the nod over the other semis. However, I still won't leave home without my j frame, its just too functionally simple and reliable for self defense. Maybe not for farm carry though.

Doesn't the Glock have the longest sight length making it easier to be on target ? Its not more accurate .. your just more accurate shooting it ..

I can carry the lcp and forget that I have it, all others size or weight make them uncomfortable. I end up leaving them in the truck.

Nice comparison. I like to shoot pistols back to back for the same kind of reasons. I also have had the same experience as you with my G42. It's a fine shooter and there are some nice, reliable options for increasing magazine capacity.

I picked up a Glock 42 awhile back and while it's easy to shoot I find it no easier to conceal than a J-frame or 9mm semiauto. Will probably sell in the near future.

I have not fired a 42. I did buy a 43 in hopes that it would replace my j frame in my pocket. The accuracy is certainly there. I just don't feel comfortable carrying it in my pocket due to size. I always enjoy expierence others have.

I love the 43, but it's too big for my pockets as well. I had a 42 but sold it. For my uses as a pocket gun, the LCP does a better job due to it's smaller size and it's accurate enough. I'll always have at least one j frame, but the LCP is much easier for me to carry in my pockets.

From many guns I have owned I choose my LCR 357 for my daily carry. It fits in my front pocket, it is light so that I seldom notice I am carrying it, the trigger IMO is best of any revolver, recoil is not punishing, it is accurate and dependable, no safety to be concerned with while having basically no fear of an AD.
Only Glock I ever owned was a G27. I was not impressed with it and it was the first gun I ever sold.
The 640-1 I just bought is a very close second to the LCR. It is only a couple ounces heavier, has a good trigger and it sure is eye candy.
I just got an LC9s and I still choose to carry the LCR. Mostly because the revolver is more dependable. That was proven to me real quick. I will take a revolver over a semi auto any day.
