Just bought a speed loader for my Governor

Would make a good house gun setup. Does the Governor take 3” magnums? There’s a 5 pellet 000 buck load out there that would be a great house load. A speedloader and light would be great additions.

It does not. That to me is the only potential drawback, but I am willing to lose 3” shells for one more chamber. I currently use the Hornady Critical Defense (love this stuff for all my might need to shoot somebody guns) .41 slug backed by two .35 balls in a 2 1/2” shell . . .

You use the governor as a carry gun?

It's a trade-off.

I own the Taurus Judge Magnum, and that 3" Cylinder adds a substantial amount of weight. (Judge = 29oz, Judge Magnum = 37oz) Also, keep in mind that the Judge is only a five-shot cylinder with thinner walls than the Governor, ergo a Governor Magnum would be much heavier. (Likely 40oz+.)

I honestly think that's why Smith & Wesson never bothered attempting to compete with the Taurus Judge Magnum and Raging Judge, because the weight of either would exceed the margins for practicality. Once a Handgun starts to get into the weight class of AR Pistols and SBS, the advantages start to go downhill.
Case in point, the Taurus Raging Judge is only slightly lighter than the Mossberg 590 Shockwave, is less powerful, and less easy to control. So if S&W decided to 1-Up Taurus with a Governor 460XVR, then the added weight of the elongated cylinder would likely cause the overall weight of the firearm to equal or exceed the Shockwave.

So yeah, don't sweat it.
