Even worth bringing a speed loader or strips for a revolver?

When I carried/carry only revolvers I carried Two. I also always carry speed strips with extra speed loaders in the car and house. My thoughts are get out if I can. Seek cover as soon as possible. With the happenings of today, I carry a high cap 9 with reload and a Five shot Snub with reload. More ammo available in house and car. I realize and I hope I will never need any of it. The CCW Lifestyle chose me and that’s what I do.

Carry a revolver, if that is what you prefer.

As far as a reload tool, (strip or speedloader),,
stick a Glock 19 in your back pocket.

The Glock 19 takes up little more space than a speedloader, and does not weigh much more.

Then, instead of 6 (or 7) more rounds, you get ~17,,
AND, the Glock is ready to deploy WAY faster than the reloaded revolver.

We have been (re)watching Justified this past week.
Rayland Givens almost NEVER needs more than 3 rounds to finish a gunfight.
He is in a new gunfight almost EVERY episode,,
his choice is a Glock 45ACP,, so that might be part of the reason the gunfight is over in only <3rounds.
MANY people claim the bigger hole gets better results,,

Hmmmmmmmmmm,,,

Lance Thomas may be retired now, but he closed his shop to walk in business after the last fandango. A street gang had made it a mission to take him out after he failed to be a compliant victim. I guess when your primary business is Rolex sales & repair, you can do that. Also, he had numerous handguns stashed around the shop and used multiple guns in at least two cases.

Oddly enough, there was another Beverly Hills Jewelry, but it was located just outside Richmond, VA. They had multiple J frames stashed about the store and when a multiple person robbery crew arrived, went through well more than two guns to resolve the issue.

That your defensive piece will end up in evidence for an unknown time is why you should either have a duplicate or something that operates similarly.

So far as the fairy tales in the entertainment media, if I'd had script writers, I darn sure wouldn't have been toting that 32-35 lb gear load daily. I didn't so I not only did the mandatory, but added a few things.

While technically correct, if using a pickup truck as the 3rd item for comparison, I think this a matter of scale.

The fastest method for reloading a revolver is full moon clips. When I carry a revolver, it's my 940 in my front right pocket. I carry two spare full moon clips in a small container in my left front pocket. Reloads are a couple of seconds max.

If I were carrying a different type of revolver that wasn't cut for full moon clips, I would send it to one of the places out there that will cut the cylinder for full moon clips.

... one of the robbers pulled out a gun and started shooting, and the others joined in, exchanging gunfire in the small store at essentially point-blank range.

Although Johnson was immediately hit in the head and neck, he was able to fire four shots at the robbers before he collapsed. Nagao, who was hit in the neck, emptied his six-shot revolver, reloaded, and fired five more shots. Leon Lee reached for his own gun and also shot at the robbers.

LAPD Street Signs - Duane Johnson Full story here

Why do you assume you will need more than 5 or 6 shots, or that a 4 to 5 second reload is too slow?
I have both Safariland speed loaders, and the rubber strips.
The speed loaders are too bulky fo CCW, so I carry one speed strip of reloads.

The Johnson story is certainly an outlier, which is why he was in the news. The rest of us, especially us grey men, will likely never be in that kind of situation.

How do you do a partial reload with full-moon clips without dumping unfired ammo on the ground?
That’s why I don’t like them. I practice shoot 2-load 2, shoot 4-load 4, etc. drills that can’t be done with full-moons.
I just plain shoot better with less practice with a revolver than with an auto, and am far more likely to need to shoot a snake, rat, or armadillo with my carry gun than a bad guy(s).

You can't do a partial reload, but I think that the partial reload "need" is greatly exaggerated. If it's time to reload, I want it done quickly. To me, that's with the moon clips.

I don't typically carry a reload. If I feel I need one, it's usually in the form of an Airweight in the pocket. I do have a speedloader in the car - but it's loaded with hard cast Keith rounds for when I go deeper in the woods.

I carry a J frame Safariland Comp1 speed loader daily in the watch pocket of my jeans. It is NOT "too bulky for concealed carry".

I like doing partial reloads with a speed strip as opposed to an HKS loader. That system is faster by far. If I'm carrying on of my J's, I have a speed strip in my back pocket. If I'm carrying my 365XL, then I might not have an extra mag. Bulk begins to appear. But the XL starts out with 12.

Even with the capacity of the 365 XL, I carry a spare magazine. I had a rare occurrence when the spot-welded base plate give out on a 9mm 1911 magazine while shooting a stage during a competition. It dropped all of the mag's contents onto the ground making the gun empty. I had another mag to replace it but it shows that anything can fail at any time and it would suck if it were your only mag during a self defense situation.

If his writers script my gunfight I guess I'll be OK. 😆
