Have thought for a while about trying Appendix carry. I normally carry a Sheild 9mm in the 4:00 position. Bit it's not always comfortable.
What holsters would you all suggest or use for Appendix carry.

Vedder Lite Tuck (with the "Claw). Perfect!

I carry a full sized M&P AIWB in a JM Custom Kydex holster—older one, without the claw. I have an extended barrel so Tony made the holster longer for that, and I like the full sweat guard to give the whole holster stability.

I have the same holster for my Shield, which also has an extended barrel and therefore an extended holster. The extra long holster keeps the gun from tipping outward and printing, and I find it is actually more comfortable than a shorter holster.

Another piece of advice, depending on your body shape, I like to put a piece of loop Velcro on the back of the holster for increased comfort. Usually I will add a small closed cell foam wedge to the bottom for additional comfort and stability.

The heavy duty belt clip allows me to take the holster off as necessary easily from a good Wilderness Tactical infinitely adjustable nylon belt. Sometimes as little as a 1/4” adjustment can make a difference during the day for comfort. I also add loop Velcro to the front of the belt clip where the hook Velcro tail of my belt goes. Additional security.

Carry around the house with the pistol unloaded and uncovered. Get used to it. Draw, dry fire and reholster a lot (100+j unloaded. Reholster slowly and carefully looking the gun right down into the cleared holster. Tip your hips forward as you do to keep the muzzle pointed away from you.

Once the gun is safely in the proper Kydex holster, it will not fire. It will not fire if you draw with your finger off the trigger. Just as with 4 o’clock, but with much better holster visibility, reholster carefully with your finger off the trigger, pathn to holster clear and muzzle pointed out. Very safe.

Use the same dry practice routine for [I]concealed[I] carry until you are comfortable. Slow, perfect draw practice will deliver fast perfect draw strokes eventually.

Then go somewhere you can do live fire from the holster. Go slow. Get comfortable. Some day(s) after that start carrying for real, loaded, but keep up dry practice at home.

I recommend the Don Hume H715-M WCS - inside the pants holster for your Shield appendix carry.

I use this holster for my EDC and position it just in front of my hip bone (over my appendix scar). The design allows a great combat grip on the draw!

The holster is a thin leather (6-7 oz) with great retention (you can hear the click) and a single clip that allows you to reposition the holster to any spot on your waistline. It comes with sweat shield (WCS) or without (WC).

The holsters are made in Oklahoma and ship within a week if in stock or 4-6 weeks if they need to craft one for you. They are on sale now.

When i was in shape with a flat stomach i loved appendix carry.

I have a gut now. Appendix carry does not agree with me.

But I did appendix carry with a P-365 in a minimalist kydex holster that covered the trigger guard. It was fine, but was not ideal if I sat for long periods.

Same setup is now at my 3:30 or 4 o’clock.

I use a Vedder Light Tuck holster with claw for my S&W 9mm and 380. I just got a clinger pad for my 380 and will order another one for my 9mm (no pics with pad), the pad really makes a difference in comfort.
I spent a lot of time researching holsters. Vedder was the only one that allowed holster cant and holster height options. You can wear it from 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock position. I wear mine at around the 1:30 position. JMO

Appendix carry is the best way to notice that you're packing on the pounds.

Did you ever see thousands of people doing something and still not get it? I still don't understand why someone would carry a loaded gun right over his/her private parts. I also don't quite get how you can comfortably sit down when carrying that way. What am I missing here? Maybe if your job dictated you stand up 100% of the time, but that's the exception.

for AWIB kydex, Vedder Lite Tuck w/claw is the best I have tried...and still went back to either IWB or OWB at 4 o'clock, because every time I sat down I knew what that barrel was pointing at. It may not be what it used to be, but it's all I got.

As far as the where it's pointing bit, I certainly wouldn't want it go off there. The good thing is, it doesn't, just as an ND is entirely unacceptable in a shoulder holster, small of back holster, 3 o'clock holster, etc. When the AIWB gained popularity, so did this argument, and it made me wonder "wait, is everybody else OK with ND's if the holster is not necessarily flagging them? Are people just giving themselves an allowable number of NDs into their floor, their car, public restroom stalls?". With anything but straight up duty type holsters I've always holstered the pistol with it off of my person, then put on the holster with the pistol inside. Easy peasy, nothing gets in the holster while holstering, nothing is pointed anywhere scary during the one "dangerous" part.

The sitting thing is fine, assuming your gut is in check. It sounds kinda dumb, but it's really the truth. A bit of extra weight really makes the pistol dig in, and is quite uncomfortable. Without that, you really don't notice any issues, and I find it more comfortable than a holster at the 4 or 8 digging into your side from seat bolsters in car seats.

Everyone should make personal decisions concerning where and how to carry based on facts, not fear or supposition. AIWB is not for everybody.

Certain body types find it physically uncomfortable. No one can argue with that.

However, a safely holstered handgun in a modern holster cannot discharge while in the holster.

It is only in the holstering/drawing sequence that one could cause a problem because of personal negligence, in training and/or application of safe handling rules. If one does not have confidence in this area, one should not carry, any where, any how.

For those of us who have developed that careful confidence and have a body type that allows sufficiently comfortable AIWB, it is a great option for EDC.
