Let’s broaden the discussion a bit from just two point and single point slings as both have big drawn backs. A two point sling works well on a long barreled rifle but will require more adjustment to transition from carry to shooting modes. Songle point slings work ok on SBRs and SMGs but they are much less stable when the firearm is being carried and it’s much more prone to swinging. The longer the firearm, the worse it gets.
——
This first sling is for explanatory purposes as the firearm is not an AR-15, but a AR-15 can be set up this way with one of a couple different pivot pin sling swivel options made by KNS precision, and an MP 5 sling or a suitable 2 to 1 sling.
The Germans got it right with the MP5 sling as it uses a sliding loop that can be secured over the forward sling hook for use as a conventional 2 point sling, or clipped into the middle of the rifle, carbine, SMG, or pistol, to create a loop that then functions like a single point sling but with more room in the loop and much more stability when carrying it slung in front or to the side as there are still two points several inches apart.
In addition, it transitions back up from a carry to a firing position just as fast as a single point sling.
In the single point configuration position it also allows you to push out against the sling and create a surprisingly stable platform without using the stock, a nice capability if you actually have something set up as an unbraced pistol.
It also quickly reverts to a two point sling by unclipping the sliding loop and placing it over the forward hook again. It can then be used to hook your elbow through the sling loop to use as a hasty sling supporting the left arm for long range shooting. This is the position where you adjust the sling length as that length will then work fine in both the two point and the “single point” configuration
Best sling ever IMHO, but under rated as most shooters don’t understand how to use it, or understand the advantages of a third attachment point on the forward end of the receiver.

This is one of the many 2 to 1 slings that can be used as either single or two point slings. This type of sling is also applicable to any AR-15 with a sling attachment point added to the base of the receiver. It’s a Magpul QDM sling using a slider to quickly adjust the forward loop on the sling. There are other variants of this sling by other makers using a strap or small sloop to adjust the slider.
The forward sling hook can be re-attached either to the QD sling swivel at the rear of the receiver, or to the ring in the sling provided for that purpose.
The slider makes it quickly adjustable for length in two point sling mode to optimize it for use as a shooting support or for carry.
