My boss has a Winchester stainless marine pump shotgun it has 2 3/4" or 3" chamber 18" bbl., cyl. bore, rifle sights, wood stock, sling swivels and is nickel plated serial L14288xx.On trying to find out a value for him I 'm not having much luck originally I thought it was a model 1300 but now I'm thinking it might be a model 1200 . There is no model marking other than Winchester stainless marine on the bbl.The gun look's to unfired or fired very little.I've been all over the internet looking for info but I'm just not sure what it is I do remember a year or two ago one of the member's here sold one like it in the classified's but the post is not there anymore.
Thank's for any possible help:confused:

The only Winchester 'Marine' shotguns I've seen were variations of the Winchester 1300 Defender series of shotguns, which are about identical to the 120/1200 series of shotguns.

I wouldn't pay more than a 100 bucks for any winchester shotgun but I saw a marine 1200 not long ago in a show and it was used going for 300.

Oh, now, that's probably a little rash, don't you think? I believe I would go a hundred and a quarter, maybe a hundred and a half for a good Model 97 or Model 12.;) I might even go as much as two hundred bucks for a Model 23 or a 101 in fairly good shape.

The gun has a stainless bbl. and mag tube a alloy receiver and has a high polish nickle finish. The gun is nice but on the bright side for my taste I have it to clean it up for him. Jason I'll let him know but I'm not sure if he'll want to sell it out of state I get the feeling he want's me to take it to the gun shop and put it on consignment as the gun was given to him and he is not a gun person.I've never been a big fan of Winchester's I've owned several in the past and the only one that I like is my 1897 pump.

Well its a long gun. That is easier to ship out of state than a handgun.
Seller can legally mail it (via USPS) to any FFL.

Went to ATF web-site clips and links follow:

http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#b1

(B7) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service?
A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another State. A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. The Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.

You are right, I meant any thing in the last twenty years. My dad still has grandpa's model 12 so forgive me. I am a 1200 and 1300 hater.:o

The Model 1200 marine was not a big seller and was soon replaced by the cheaper Model 1300. If memory serves it was a high polish stainless steel. I don't think nickel would hold up any better that blue steel in salt water conditions? I have been looking for one for years. I did a lot of boating and when they came out, I just wasn't impressed. Now, I am. I would think anything under $500 would be a steal for a Model 1200 SS Marine riot gun in mint condition.

I saw where one sold for over a grand on GB. I bought one a few weeks ago for $400 and the best I can tell is that it is mostly nickel plated stainless (barrel and all the other shiny stuff) and the other parts are corrosion resistant. I bought it because it's purty and you don't see a lot of them. I own a few riot/ trench guns and think that several (870, Ithaca 37, Stevens, S&W 3000,etc) are better guns than the 1300 but I didn't have a shiny one and now I do. At least it's better than a High Standard. Also, shiny guns have a certain intimidation factor over non-shiny. A personal opinion of course.

Charlie, I am so glad you are appreciating the shiny things in life. I always thought those Winchesters would be a good match for one of my nickel Smiths.

Why would a gun manufacturer nickle plate stainless?? Unless I am missing something this just makes no sense.

For what reason are you a hater of the 1200 and 1300? I have a 1300 Defender and love it, fun little 12g to shoot. Im i missing something here?

P.S. Young guy.....

I have had a 1200 since 64 or so and I like it. SD pheasants don't care much for it however.

Yup!! I've used 1300 (22 inch barrel) on turkeys since the late 80's.....does the job quite well. :)

The Winchester 1200/1300 models don't get much respect, but they can get-r-done when needed.

I'll give you $300 for any model 23's you may have in good condition and I'll go $500 for a model 21..... Don't ask me why but I think it my civic duty to get those boat anchors off the streets.....
