When the Lipsey's Exclusive Ruger New Model Blackhawk .44 Special came out in 2009, I just had to have one in the 4 5/8" barrel length. As a fan of Skeeter Skelton, this revolver just called to me.

I installed a Wolff spring kit and loaded some .430 bullets and the single action shot great!

I had Cary C make me a set of his stunning birdseye maple handles with factory Ruger medallions and they really set the gorgeous blue finish off with some serious pop!

Then I sent the revolver off to Michael Gouse (Gouse Freelance Firearms Engraving & Montana Art Emporium) for 75% coverage American Scroll and Skeeter's Bar-T cattle brand on the backstrap.

As handsome as the blue finish was, to my eye a single action revolver must have a case hardened frame. So I sent it off to Turnbul Manufacturing to have the hammer, frame, and loading gate case hardened.

Along with a Threepersons holster from El Paso Saddlery, my .44 Special Blackhawk is now finished!

I really like how it looks along with my matching S&W 624 in the custom display case I made for them both.

Gratuitous photos of my 624 since this is, of course, the S&W Forum!

I always love to see what you come up with for your posts. That is very nice - stunning maple in those stocks, excellent metal work and finishing, and a great leather rig, too. (I might put a shameless plug in for a Bowen rear sight for that "special" Ruger .44 Special. Might make a nice addition and further improve the looks of it overall.)

Just VERY nice. Thanks for the pictures. :)

Absolutely perfect.

I have seen pics of a lot of engraved firearms and often thought do I want an engraved firearm? And I always came up with, "No."

And of course a lot of them were nickeled which I most often think looks better than blue because to me the blue "hides" the engraving. Yours is just the opposite.

Maple grips. I have never seen a set of Maple grips (or rifle stock) that I liked...except your two sets and the Ruger is exceptional.

And the leather rig is super as well, not overstated but elegant.

That is indeed to me a first-class BBQ gun.

"The stuff that dreams are made of." I know that Skeeter would be proud of those beautiful shootin' irons; they are absolutely gorgeous. The photos are outstanding also. Thanks!

Sir, you have made my day - to see your post of those two gorgeous six-shooters , plus leather and display case. We are in your debt!

Thanks for sharing. I knew Skeeter Skelton slightly and he would have preferred ivory grips. Otherwise, your guns would excite him considerably.

I do understand the difficulties of obtaining and maintaining ivory stocks today, and the high cost.

You DEFINITELY need to come south and attend a BBQ with both of those rigs! Beautiful guns, both; don't know which one I'd want more!

You certainly captured the spirit of "Skeeter".

We have seen another tribute pair here and they were stunning as well.Who was that?

I loved Skeeter as a kid reading Shooting Times and dreaming about his .44 specials.

I'm in awe.Thanks for sharing.
