What the heck was Ruger thinking!!!
Picked up a 1022 take down a couple weeks ago. Mounted the scope rail that came with it, bought a cheap Tasco 4x scope and borrowed some Weaver rings from a friend. At 25 yards the results were, frustrating. Today I tried a known good scope and a higher set of Weaver rings. The results were still frustrating. Packing things up I noticed that the scope was just a little loose. Rings were tight on the scope but tightened as far as they would go the rings would not clamp tight to the Ruger base. Cheap Simons rings clamped tight but not Weavers. Unbelievable.

So, what is the issue? The Ruger take-downs are getting rave reviews including some on this very forum.
Not clear what the gripe is?

Ah, gottcha. I hadn't heard of this being a problem.

I think it's a tolerance stacking issue between the rings and the rails. I have a red dot sight that will not tighten up on the rail of one rifle, but works perfectly on another.

Regarding the Ruger take-down. Perhaps a little strip of mole-skin between the base and clamps?

No, I like the rifle fine. My complaint is with the Ruger base rail. Apparently I am not the only one who has run into this problem because I read on online review that recommended replacing the Ruger rail with a Weaver base rail. Make me wonder if Weaver bases would fit.

I'd give Ruger a call and ask what brand of rings they recommend.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the factory supplied base on the new Ruger have two sides to it? One is for Weaver style rings and the other for the rings sized for 3/8" rings? Try turning the base over and see if that helps.
Just checked the Ruger web site. It comes with a combination scope base. See above.
