I have seen several movies recently that had what looked like nickel 92's. I have owned stainless and blued 92's, but don't remember seeing a nickel one for sale. I know this is a S&W forum, but after reading some of the questions / statements that I have read over the years, I thought I'd pass it along. Anyone know if they are available, or ever have been? Thanks, DLB

Or highly polished stainless ones, the Inox model.

Hollywood gun rental places sometimes do things to guns that are not factory original.

Nickel Taurus

Or even more likely -

Prop gun that they've made to appear nickel/chrome whatever. There's lots of prop guns in all shapes and sizes. Some resemble actual make and models, some don't. When you see the same cop or gangsta with what appears to be the same gun throughout a movie or TV episode, you may be seeing a dozen different props. Obviously they don't really fire. They don't even have to really make noise. All the clicks and racks and booms are Foley'd in later.

In the 92 series line, there are only three models that came factory nickel that I recollect. All three had very limited production. They are the full size Billenium and the Steel I, and the double stack compact version of the 92SB.

Now in the 380 caliber Cheetah line, quite a few versions of the Model 84 and 85 came in factory nickel. These are far more common than the Billenium, Steel I and the 92SB Compact.

But as others have said, it is far more likely to be some regular 92 refinished in chrome/nickel and made into a prop gun, or a Taurus clone.

They may have been nickle Taurus clones.

That's what I was thinking too. Taurus also made the Beretta 'clone' in bright stainless steel that looks a lot like it has nickle plating.

Odds are, that's what the 'nickle Beretta 92' really was.

Thanks for the responses. I remember seeing a two-tone at a shop once, but I am not sure what the metals were, it was probably at least 30 years ago..........I think. DLB

Aloha,

Beretta did make a Stainless Golden 92.

I got one for the Wife's Beretta BBQ collection.

I do not know when or how many were made.

I'm not sure but I think the Limited 470 Anniversary guns may be stainless

None of the Wife's guns are safe queens. All are shooters.

She believes in enjoying them while she can.

If anyone is a Walking Dead fan, the "governor" carries a nickled Beretta 92. It appears to be an older model 92 with the rounded trigger guard vs squared as on the 92FS/M9. My bet is it's a non factory finish. I'm pretty sure Taurus clones of the Beretta always had frame mounted safetys and could be carried cocked and locked vs the slide mounted safety on the Beretta, one way to tell the difference.

Actually Taurus 92's are not clones technically. Remember that Beretta set up shop in Brazil to build them for the Brazilian army. Beretta left and sold the equipment. Taurus did make some change but they are not clones since they are build on Beretta tooling. The one in the walking dead looks like a stainless slide and I do not think Beretta made a steel frame so that is why I think it is polished stainless slide and polished aluminum frame.

I think the stainless 92s came out in the mid to late 90s and they all had the squared front trigger guard. I had one but sold it...OWWW! (I always kick myself when I think about that pistol).
