Subject: Fwd: New German Machine Gun

This thing sounds like a sewing machine. Where is the recoil?

Notice--almost no recoil as well. Best thing out of Germany since the 'Beetle'. Very Impressive and stable platform. It can be fired from virtually any position including standing. Virtually no muzzle rise with a 7.62! A friend wrote: As a former machine gunner, I am in awe of these new German machine guns. Good Grief . . . I would damn sure hate to be "down range" facing these weapons. And they're planning on cutting back our military here! I sure hope they know what they're doing .. . . I am astounded at the ease in changing the barrels as well as the very low recoil forces it has. This link is to a video of the new German Army machine gun demo.

I've seen that video before. Reminded me of how much my German has gone to hell, but the weapon looks amazing. Quenching the very hot barrel in the stream and then continuing to use it was pretty impressive.

I would love to know how much the internals still resembled the old MG-34 and MG-42 designs. Very impressive with the stream drenching of the barrel.

Should give FN-who makes about all of the MG's for our military, quite a run for their money. Spec ops a no brainer on the last one with the folding stock. I remember the NCO who trained us on the M-60 MG regarding the "change the barrel every 100 rounds" deal. He said, "the army has beau coup MG barrels, but they only have one of me." Amen.

That video is sped up so you are not hearing the true sound. Still impressive though.

I would think that dunking a super hot barrel in a cold creek would mess up the heat treatment in short order, but I am no metallurgist. Any ideas?

Rapid dunking would likely warp it -- note it was done very gradually. And I doubt that, hot as it was, it was hot enough to affect the heat treatment.

That video was incredible. Barrel swapping was tool less and took less than 15 seconds. The entire gun was dunked, given a few seconds drain time and kept on going.

I'm headed to my LGS Monday and order one!!!!!

And the best part?? No out-of-stock mags!!!!!!!!

Tool-less AND no asbestos glove.

How in the heck do they reduce recoil to almost nothing ?

That gun couldn't weigh enough to eliminate recoil.
