This is rekindling an old thread. What is the LOUDEST hand gun you've ever heard and/or shot ?

My vote, hands down, goes to the Ruger Black Hawk in .30 carbine

I wholeheartedly agree on this one!!!The .30 cal. Ruger BH is SO sharp in its muzzle blast, even with plugs and muffs it hurts.

I have always thought that the .357's magical stopping power was due to the noise - no perp wanted to hear it again.

Are we talking with or without ear protection?

Without ear protection I shot S&W 44mag, Desert Eagle 50, 12G pump and Mosin Nagant 7.62x54. It's hard to say which of those was lauder but since this is for "handguns' I'll say the .50

I was looking at a T/C Contender barrel in 35 REM yesterday,,,
and wondering how loud it was??

Some of those T/C barrels have to be the winner,,,
especially if you put a muzzle brake on the thing to deflect the noise back,,

In my personal experience, the Ruger in .30 M-1 is the winner, with a Coonan Arms .357 Magnum in 2nd place.

I take it none of you shoot USPSA matches? A 9Major or a 38 Super Comp with a compensator is really loud. I know a number of RO's who won't run an Open division shooter due to the noise. I have to adjust the sensitivity of my shot timer because it will pick up the echo as another shot.

The .30 Tokarev is pretty loud, but probably not as bad as the Ruger in .30 carbine.

Well I have never had an opportunity to shoot a Blackhawk in .30 carbine, but I think the loudest one I own is probably my NAA in 22 magnum. It's loud with ear protection.

I have a Model 19 with a 2 1/2" barrel. With warm magnum loads a ball of fire about two feet in diameter erupts from the muzzle, followed by an ear-ringing blast of painful noise.

In my experience

It's a ported 4" X-frame 460 Magnum. A broad daylight muzzle flash the size of a beach all!!

Overall, the loudest I've experienced is the old M198 towed 155 with its muzzle brake and charge 7 ammo. Everything else is just a popgun!

That is why I use .32-20 level handloads in my Ruger .30 Carbine Blackhawk. Shooting GI ammo is just too disturbing.
