Taurus PT111 Gen 2 thoughts?
I wanted to get some thoughts on Taurus PT111 gen 2 9mm.
I don't care about 1st generation recalls because Glock & S&W has there share of recalls also.
I like this pistol so much that I purchased 2 of them. They are at KYgunco for $209 which includes 2 mags.
Has a stainless steel barrel & polished feed ramp, Metal guide rod, Slide is melt down (rough edges removed), Very thin grip for concealed carry.
Mine will feed any 9mm ammo with no problems.

My wife bought one. Liked it well enough. I thought the trigger was way too "mushy". Mis-heard the recall and switched her to a Glock 26==too thick. She went to a Glock 43, which she loves==enough to buy 2 (one for the purse; one for the bedroom).
In my opinion, it is not the gun a Glock is but neither is the price. I do like the external safety for neophytes. In short, I don't like the trigger but nothing bad to say except that!
Oh, the "automatic" trigger re-set is nice! I think it's worth the money.

I agree, the trigger is mushy & the only slight negative about the gun

I had a friend's PT111 Gen2 for a couple of months. Shot a few magazines through it with no issues. I really like the way it fits in my hand. The oval cross section of the grip feels much better than a G26 or XD subcompact. I also like that you can get three fingers on the grip and find that it points quite naturally. There's a lot that I like about this little 12 shot pistol. However, the trigger breaks too close too far to the rear for my long, "piano player" fingers, adversely affecting my "combat accuracy". So, ultimately it was a no-go for me.

I guess not to many Taurus lovers in a S&W thread.
S&W revolvers and 3rd gen semi autos are my favorite guns, but I do like a few Taurus also.. A good gun is a good gun no matter who makes it.

Nice cheap gun if you don't run it hard; don't see a Taurus long in IDPA competitions. They are just not made for the long haul and heavy use in action pistol games.
A harder alloy metal costs you twice: it costs more, and the machining is harder on tools and also costs more. There's a reason pistols like STIs cost more and last longer.

"A good gun is a good gun no matter who makes it." You are right. I
bought a couple of Taurus semi autos last year at very good prices
and both have been good guns so far, a TCP .380 and a 709 Slim 9mm.
I looked at the PT111 9mm and liked it but didn't buy because it's
size seemed close to my Glock 26. Yeah it's popular on here to bash
Taurus and Glock for those in search of cheap credibility but when you
are bored and looking for free entertainment read the threads about
the S&W Shield. I bought my TCP and 709 for CC and neither will ever
see 1,000 rds fired and if I wanted a gun for competition that might
run for 100,000 rds I would have bought something else at a much
higher price no doubt. The Taurus semi autos can be money well spent
for a lot of owners.

I was taught not to say anything at all if you have nothing nice to say. I will follow that advice.
I will say, however, that I get the sense that YOU are happy with a purchase already made. Since you are the only one that matters in this case, I will congratulate you on your purchase.

I love Taurus guns. It's a matter of function as opposed to fine fit and finish like you find on old Colts or nicer S&W's. All of my Taurus handguns work great, but I do understand that many people have had issues with Taurus firearms, so I can understand their antipathy.
The main issue I think I had was only with one gun - a .22 pistol that took too many rounds for break in. Even when it started feeding/ejecting reliably, it would still light strike on occasion, but it had "second strike" capability and a second pull of the trigger always solved the issue. Since it was a plinker and not a defensive weapon, I didn't care.
I'm guessing that Taurus issues are related to them maybe cutting corners on quality control - In other words, they save money by not checking guns like they sometimes should before they go out the door. It's not that the guns are bad, it's that they don't keep problem product from leaving the factory like higher end makers do.
I recently bought a used Taurus .44 special revolver that has a beautiful polished stainless finish and shoots and works perfectly. How much would I pay for a comparable Smith and Wesson? I have the PT 111G2, and it, like wise, is an excellent gun. With discounted prices, I haven't seen any gun of any make with that level of quality for the dollar. I used to carry mine until I recently decided to start carrying revolvers.

Ok, at one point owned a PT111MilPro, never could keep the Gens straight.
It was reliable, and accuracy and trigger pull was comensurate with expectations and requirements of the type of pistol.
* For Me* , it was all but useless. Too big to fit in pocket, too small for good control in my XXXL hands. I ended up even trading for a parts gun M1 Carbine. Both of us were highly pleased and thought we came out ahead.

It's a good gun, but for me a bad trigger is a deal breaker. Which is too bad. I really want to like that gun.

I have two Tauruses. A 9mm sub compact and a .38 special revolver. Both have been flawless in terms of function. They aren't the prettiest guns made (not the ugliest either), but they work. My little 9 has pretty close to 10,000 rounds through it now. Never a bobble in all that shooting. The revolver only has a few hundred through it, and it has been perfect as well.
Yes, people have problems with them sometimes. Sometimes people have problems with S&Ws, too. I have yet to send a Taurus in for repair. I have sent in a Smith (took them two tries to get it right), a Sig (only took them one try to get it right), and a Bersa (three times for different issues). Are those bad guns? Nope. Anything mechanical can and will break.
The problem with Taurus polymer pistol triggers is that they break WAY at the back almost touching the trigger guard. They aren't especially heavy or gritty, but that LONG pull makes achieving accuracy difficult.

I was looking at one of these for a "go bag" or truck gun. How bad is the trigger? Also looked at a Hi Point (dont judge), I cant imagine a Taurus is worse..is it?

The Taurus is leaps & bounds a better firearm.. I recommend it.
I would call the Taurus trigger a combat trigger, its not bad, just feels a bit mushy

I bought one from LGS for $225 out the door. Love the way it feels in my hand. Trigger pull is awful, 7½ lbs. Understand that the standard is 6½-8 lbs. Not sorry that I bought it.

I have 4 Tauri at the moment, one of them is the PT111G2, the other 3 are revolvers. I have nary a complaint about any of them. I probably have 600 rounds through the 9mm since getting it around the beginning of the year. No hiccups at all, very accurate and I plan on keeping it around for awhile. I do agree with others on this thread regarding the trigger---could be better, but the one on mine isn't horrible and has improved since its first trip to the range. For someone either on a fairly tight budget, or who just doesn't want to spend several hundred dollars on a 9mm pistol, my opinion is it is a decent gun and not a bad purchase at all.

I just ordered one from Ky Gun at that $209 price for a truck gun, or for the wife if she likes it. She likes my Shield better than anything I have, so far. Hoping the G2 will become her favorite. If not, it should be a pretty cheap option for the truck. All of the reviews I have read and watched, love everything but the trigger. I'll soon find out for myself, but I'm not trying to buy a target gun anyway.

One of daughters tried my wifes m&p9c that has a few apex parts in it and some polishing done to the trigger group so we went to the gun shop . I told here I buy what she wants . She ended up handling and sig p250 and the PT111G2 and she liked the grip , the reach to the trigger and size of it so we took it home to get to know it .
I get the task of break in on all the handguns and found out I liked the trigger far better than a stock m&p trigger . I've never been to picky about triggers so long as there smooth be it a da or sa and the pt111g2 trigger is lighter to pull and Not gritty . Accuracy is on par with most 3.5" pistols .
Darn sure a best buy !
Funny to read guy's whining about the trigger on a forum dominated by m&p pistol owners !!
Remember guys , the PT111G2 will work just fine with sig p226 mags so a 16 to 20 round mag makes a heck of a back up mag and faster to swap with the short grip . My daughter uses a mec-gar 18 rounder as her back up mag .

Revolver pickings are pretty slim here in CA regarding Taurus revolvers. Got a 65 .357 in matte black at LGS, apparently blued ones are on the "no no" list here. Not the prettiest of the bunch, but it does the job.

I was looking for a double stack compact with safety. Ruled out S&W because at the time when shooting my full size S&W M&P .40, muzzle flip would cause an inadvertent re engagement of the safety 2-3x each magazine. LGS recommended the Taurus Pt 111 G2. This was over two years ago. Nothing I don't like. Ramp needed a little polishing, sights adjusted, and good to go. It is a carry gun not a range pistol. For me, the trigger while different, is just fine. Has combat accuracy, 100% function with Hornady 115 gr. FTX, and all practice hardball.

I've have/had several. One (PT609) was affected by the settlement (aka "recall"). I sent it in last summer and they replaced it with a PT809 at my request. It took four months to arrive. From what I see on the Taurus forum that was an amazingly good outcome. Some that sent there's in at the same time have now been waiting almost a year. I think it has to do with the availability of the replacement model. I was just lucky and they had PT809's in stock. After 1,000 rounds it's runs fine.
I had a PT738 that developed extraction problems. Sent it in and it came back fixed right in two weeks, with a free mag thrown in. This was a couple of years ago though.
My .380 revolver, PT92, PT911, and PT638 all run fine. I think the guns are a good value. Especially the 92 and it's variants.
I have no problems with their guns. I think they are a great value and offer a viable option if budget is a strong consideration. They do work.
I do have a problem with their service. They do not sell parts so you are forced to send it to them. I'm even OK with that but currently they have such long lead times it takes forever, and their communication is a best poor.
This may very well be because of a massive influx due to the settlement. Whatever, I would not buy one now just because their service is currently in total disarray.

Excellent hi cap, small, powerful and accurate enough defense pistol.
Reliable to a fault. Trigger? It wont go off in your pocket. In a defensive encounter I doubt you will care about the trigger pull but be very glad it goes bang every time it is pulled.
Did I mention that it is affordable?
