Hey Guys, I got excited about Tavor coming out with a .308 version but from what IWI customer support told me, it will have a muzzle brake on the gun.

I don't know if any of you shot a rifle with a muzzle brake, but in a bullpup I think my hearing would take a beating wouldn't you agree? I have also seen slow motion of barrels with muzzle brakes and seeing how much the barrel flexes, you have to wonder how many cycles before the barrel either stays permanently bent and/or weak. I never thought the barrel flexed that much

Concussion and muzzle blast on a .308 with a MB is nasty for people on either side of you at the range. I have a CETME that came with a muzzle brake and with proper hearing protection I had no problem with it. You could definitely feel the concussion though. I replaced it with a flash hider and the recoil increased markedly. You might factor that into your decision. If I had it to do over again I would not have removed the MB on mine.

Yikes! Well Windham makes a pretty cool AR 308 but has no muzzle brake and being that it is lighter than most, been told the recoil is pretty stout. Think I just may stick to my 5.56 because it only has a flash hider and not that loud

I’d want to be sure I could remove the brake and run without it. That said, .308 in a bullpup is going to be tough on the ears either way. I think I’d stick to 5.56 in that platform unless I tested the .308 before buying.

I have an FS2000 with a 17" barrel and that is loud enough in 5.56. I would buy the Tavor 7 in the 20", but not the 17".

KelTec were supposed to sell 24" barrel versions of the RFB, but I've never seen one.

I also think the .308 is a cartridge that is best suited for long distance. Close quarters probably not best suited.

First of all, you can replace the muzzle brake with a sound forwarder and it will seem more quiet than no muzzle brake at all

Second a muzzle brake will not bend a barrel. All barrels flex to differing degrees and that is normal
