WTB another 9mm pistol.. Which do you prefer?

The Hi Power you bought is both a great pistol to shoot and has tons of history and is NOT a carry pistol so I assume that is not a criteria.

I'm not sure why you say his Hi Power is "NOT" a carry pistol.

I carry one every day that I'm not carrying a revolver, which has been quite a bit lately.

After I ops check the H&K USP I picked up today, the HP is going to Garthwaite for a tune up and reblue.

In my opinion, the Hi Power is about the perfect size for concealed carry. The closest contender is the Glock 19. Both are right at 5" in height, which is what really matters for concealment.

Hard to choose. My 2 favorite 9's are a Beretta M9 and a Rock Island 1911 Tactical. They both eat anything I reload for them and give back light recoil. I'm getting way up there in years and enjoy being able to spend long shooting days at the range where 100-200 rounds don't leave my hands aching for a week. That heavy 1911 is so smooth to shoot 9mm in.

Never net a tupperware framed-striker fired handgun I could love.
For a strictly self defense tool they're good enough I guess. But for a long time shooter of highly accurate range weapons with glass crisp, light break triggers they just never quite measure up.
YMMV

I like my modern version of the CZ75, the SP01 Phantom, full size, polymer frame with the original ergonomic bliss....and a hammer, usually under $500

Accurate, soft shooting, easy to carry and it is also the sidearm of the Czech army.

Best shooting 9mm I have ever own!

My favorite 9mm is my West German made SIG Sauer P226. After that are my Czechoslovakian made CZ75 and Italian made Beretta 92 FS (with "G" type de-cocker) in no particular order. All three of these are outstanding pistols. After that come my S&W 469 and Israeli made Golan. None of my 9mm pistols have ever malfunctioned, and that includes using hollow point and cast lead round nose ammo.

Here is my P226, purchased in 1989. I do have the box and all the papers, but no picture at the moment...

Given that you already own a Hi-Power, and you want a 9mm for fun? My opinion in order:

1. Double Stack = CZ75b or some flavor of CZ75. A full size one.
2. Single Stack Full Size = 9mm 1911. I own a Springfield Range Officer 9mm.
3. Single Stack Compact = Sig P225 A1.

As you can see, I'm not into polymer framed striker fired lately.

My favorite 9mm other than the Hi Power would be the H&K P7. Either the M8 or the PSP. I find the M13 to be ungainly. Rather expensive but the quality and feed reliablity is second to none.

Thanks to all for your excellent input! My uncle who is a big gun geek (and a frugal one) recommended a knock-off CZ-75 as well. He found one with and adjustable rear sight for around $300 and he said its GREAT for the $. I'm so torn between the P226 and the CZ-75 I'll probably just get both BUT the Sig trigger is SO good. Is the CZ trigger as good as the Sig? My only gripe about the Hi Power is the heavy trigger -- sorry I'm used to S&W wheel gun triggers that drop without hesitation and surprise me as soon as I lightly squeeze.. :D

Since pictures make every thread better, this is the FN hi power that I traded for a while back with a forum member. It is an absolutely awesome gun - never choked with my reloads, accurate, low recoil and excellent balance/feel. This is the gun that got me HOOKED on 9mm, hi powers, etc, etc..... This one will never leave the safe. I thought my 1911 Gold Cup .45 was the king until i got a hold of this thing.

Personally, I think the CZ trigger is as good as the SIG SRT. My Tristar C100 (CZ copy) is as good as my SIG P229 with SRT, but only after I changed the springs in it.

As far the HP trigger, have you removed the magazine disconnect? It was removed from my gun before I got it, but folks say that improves the trigger quite a bit. The trigger on mine is very good - not quite 1911, but very good.

Stock CZ-75b DA/SA trigger v.s. Stock Sig P226 DA/SA Trigger = It's a wash. Pick whichever one you personally find better. The difference will be in perceived recoil with the CZ-75 having less perceived recoil and less muzzle flip than the Sig P226.

Stock CZ-75 DA/SA v.s. Sig P226 DA/SA with a Short Reset Trigger = Sig.

CZ-75 DA/SA with trigger work/parts from Cajun Gun Works or a CZ Custom Shop v.s. Stock Sig P226 DA/SA trigger = CZ-75 wins.

CZ-75 DA/SA with trigger work/parts from Cajun Gun Works or CZ Custom Shop v.s. Sig P226 with a Short Reset Trigger and Sig Action Enhancement Package = Very close to call, but I prefer the CZ with a Cajun Gun Works trigger.
