I traded into my first "9" last year -- a 50's Belgian Hi Power 9mm austrian police. Traded with another member of this forum locally for a 4" 5 screw dull k38! He wanted my gun so we both made out like bandits! :D Since then I have been reloading 9mm and love to reload due to the cheap cost of components, good recoil, accuracy, etc...........great cartridge and that HP ain't going anywhere! .

I'd like to add another 9mm or 2 to my safe. I dont have too many requirements and I understand this is a broad question, BUT.. What is your favorite 9mm caliber gun and why? I thought of buying another hi power but that's not much fun!

I like my modern version of the CZ75, the SP01 Phantom, full size, polymer frame with the original ergonomic bliss....and a hammer, usually under $500

Accurate, soft shooting, easy to carry and it is also the sidearm of the Czech army.

Depends on your budget..............................

With a Hi-Power you started with one of the best.....as of 2017 out of production from FN (Browning was the Importer) and prices are going up ........ fast. See-Mec-gar for top quality extra magazines ..... good prices and 15 rounds.

If you are thinking metal and wood........

Everyone should have a 1st Gen Smith 39.... $350-500. A classic and a gun that just fits almost every one's hand. Single stack 8+1 DA/SA.

CZs are good guns.... $500-750....... lots of variations on the basic Model 75 from ..... 1975!

3rd Gen Smiths.... 3913,6906,915,59xx.... $300 and up used.

Performance Center Smiths autos based on the 3rd Gen Guns......... like the Shorty-9 or DPA5906... semi-custom from the Shop; $800 and up.

Wilson Combat is offering some highly upgraded Beretta 92s for $1100-1300.but a new or used 92 can be had for $400-700...... maybe even find a Elite I or II...... $800-1000

Sig......... 220,226....... my favorites are the old mid-size double and single stack......Models 228 and 225.

1911 pattern 9mms seem to be "in vogue" these days...... and available from several makers.

This pistol looks similar to the hi power in terms of size/shape/ergonomics. Is it similar? I have a CZ-455 22lr and it is my absolute FAVORITE rifle.

CZ75 pistol was developed/adopted in 1975 and was considered one of the best service pistols made at the time. Not imported to the US due to the ongoing ''Cold War".............until the mid-90s. There were a number of copies made IIRC in Italy and Turkey.

Kind of a blend of other guns best features ...... could be carried cocked and locked like a 1911/HP or hammer down for a DA/SA trigger........ hi-cap "Wonder-nine"; 15+1 back then IIRC now 17+1.

Similar look and feel as the Browning HP with the internal rails for a tight slide to frame fit (again IIRC copying the Sig 210) for superior accuracy........... rumored to be the handgun of choice of Russian Special Forces and Jeff Cooper.

I have one CZ75B 9mm and a .22lr "Kadet" pistol
I don't have a 455 but do have several 452 and 453 rimfire rifles and 527 centerfire CZs

My 9mm's include:

Springfield 4" EMP 1911
Smith and Wesson 39
German Luger
CZ 75

I am fond of these. I envision a SIG 210 Target as my next 9mm.

My favorite 9mm handgun is the S&W 3953. The pistol is my favorite because it fits my hand, is lightweight, has a sweet trigger, and a simple manual of arms. The Gen3 S&W model 3953 is my favorite 9mm choice for concealed carry or home security.

If I had deeper pockets, I'd get a Swiss made Sphinx 3000, 2000, or a pre-Kriss SDP Duty.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Sig P365.

anyone have a Sig P226?

I don't, but I shot a friend's P226 a while back. It was an excellent shooter. I asked my friend who did his trigger job, and he replied that it was stock. So that seems to be a good place to start. If you want a smaller version, try the P229. Sounds like a fun project!

I also have a friend with a 226 and made the same observation. I was shocked how good the trigger was... I'm zeroing in on the CZ-75 or Sig P226

I would agree with Bam Bam. Im partial to a Sig P226 or P228 West German with folded stamped slides, they have the nicest balance of the Sig P-series guns, and will be collectible as a bonus. I would like an original blued "pre-B" model CZ 75 one day. For now I have a wicked little customized stainless P-01 that has the nicest trigger I've ever felt in a TDA pistol but it took some doing and some cash to get it there

How are the west German with folding stamped slides identified?

Since it's the Smith Forum,
keep it in the family and go
top-of-the-line:

A 1911 styled 5" barreled
9 mm Smith & Wesson.

It'd also be classic in the same
vein as the BHP.

I have several 9mm S&W's and like them very much but for carry I really like my H&K's - P2000 & VP9. Light weight, accurate and I really like the mag release. YMMV

Buying another Hi-Power isn't fun?

I've been doing it wrong.

TriStar S-120 Steel 85060 | G4G Guns

This is the CZ-75 clone I bought that I'm extremely happy with and some folks say the internals are slightly better finished than the original CZ-75. It has a shiny black Ceracote finish and I installed checkered walnut grips on mine so it looks old school classy and it feels similar to a Browning HP but a little thicker.
