Default Promag - for Sig P230/232 - Any good?

I recently purchased a Sig Sauer P230 on my Post 46 Collectors Licence. Unfortunately, the firearm only came with one magazine. Just looking on Gunbroker and eBay, the OEM magazines for this pistol are up between $90-110 USD. Me, not wanting to spend that much on a Collectors piece (in my opinion), saw that Promag offers magazines for the P230/232 at a more reasonable $17-$20 USD mark.

Has anybody had any experience with Promags? Are they any good compared with OEM and Mec-gar magazines? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have had EXCELLENT results with Pro-Mags in my Sig 229. No idea as to how they might work in your gun. Order one and give it a try.

I bet there may be some hit/miss quality wise (no doubt a satisfied user somewhere) but based on my limited experience (there's a reason its limited) I wouldn't take a promag if you gave it to me. More than likely, just another exercise in frustration for me.
I'm not a hater so to those that are promag positive, congratulations. They've been around too long not to have some that work.

Are those the magazines you changed out the springs to wolf and the followers to Sig?

Absolutely not!

I have a Sig P229 .40, it came with 1 mag, firing with said mag works 100% flawless.

I decided to order a ProMag so Id have another mag.

Got it, looked great.....took it out to test it.....All I got my double feeds and other magazine related failures....

Called ProMag....to their credit...they replaced it.....and told me to keep the other one (no idea why it was worthless)....Second mag came.....same issues.

Called them again.....they issued me a refund....I asked if they wanted me to send both mags back....."No sir, you can keep them"

So the mags are garbage in my opinion.....also makes me wonder....if you believe you make a good product...and your product isnt defective.....why not want them back?

To me, ProMag must have known that the mags had an issue or else Id presume Id want them back to resell them?

I ended up buying a Sig factory mag......worked 100%. So please dont tell me "it was the gun".

Maybe youll have a better experience but I certainly wont go through that trouble again unless ProMag is my only option.

You get what you pay for.

The magazine one of most critical parts of a firearm that needs to work flawlessly, everytime for a firearm to function properly. Cheap will get expensive in terms of frustration and money spent when buying from a company with an iffy reputation, like Promag. Spend the money, buy the proper magazine, be happy!

Magazines
Are
Garbage

If someone gave me a Promag, I'd be insulted!

Moo Moo bought one just like yours last week. Came with 1 factory and one promag. Shot it with the factory and another original factory mag. Going to range again in the am and will let you know how the Promag works. Wish Mec Gar made one but I don't think they ever did.

In my experience, Promags are junk.

That said, in your situation with very expensive OEM mags, I'd try the Promag. I'd disassemble it before testing to lightly lube it and smooth any sharp edges on the follower and lips.

If it still doesn't work, I'd want to try a extra power mag spring, but Wolff doesn't sell them. I would do some research to see if any other single stack .380 mag springs will work. You might be able to use one from a Walther PP/PPK, Makarov, or some other European blowback gun.

Good luck!

I have Promags that work well in my Bersa Thunders. It's at least superficially similar to your Sig, so it may be worth a try. I also have some Promags for my Hi Point carbine, and those work, too.

Their quality control does seem to be hit and miss, though, so no guarantees.

Moo Moo. Shot my 230 with the promag. Good news and bad news. The feed lips, follower, and spring all seemed fine. Feed and cycled except for two times the mag dropped loose.

Heel mag dropped loose you say!!??

Yes the base plate is a traditional button tab retainer like most semi autos and not the tail of the mag spring retainer found on 220/230 mags. It wiggles badly and the plastic slid forward and under recoil let the metal mag body jump past the heel release. That was firing 102 grain Golden Sabre ammo. No problems shooting white and green box Remington though.
