What are the forums thoughts on the .32 H&R Magnum?

There's some good info on Lucky Gunner's ammo tests of pocket pistol calibers. There, you can compare various .32 H&R Magnum rounds to .32 S&W Long and .327 Federal Magnum, as well as to other pocket calibers in terms of penetration and expansion. As you might expect, .327 Federal Magnums performed the best, but some of the .32 H&R Magnums did OK. I would love it oh so more if they had more appropriately named it the .32 H&R Special. That would make the world balance just a bit better. It is somewhere around 25-26k psi max, and should have been named a “Special.”

It's a dandy, like all the .32s I've tried. I would like to play with it from a 3" SP-101 (or a 4" S&W, if God chooses to so bless me), but I have used so-called "+P" data from Handloader magazine to make it really shine out of a 6.5" Bisley Single-Six: 115-gr RNFP at M 1412.2 fps/S 51/D 21 (5950'>sea level, c. 15% humidity, 75 degrees F), Starline .32 H&R Magnum brass, Hunters Supply 115-gr RNFP hard cast bullets, .313", Remington 1 1/2 small pistol primers, ___ gr. 2400).

I like it. I mostly shoot my 4" M631, but also have a cylinder to fit my Ruger SA 32 combo gun.
I'm very pleased with mine. The 16-4 was used to work up hand loads and with the Hornady 100 gr XTP loads I settled on were chrono'd at over 1200 fps from the 6" 16-4 and the same load goes over 1000 fps from the 1 7/8" 432PD and 431PD.
I like it. I have had a M16-4 that was super accurate and I currently have a Cimarron (Uberti) Model P Jr, think 7/8 scale SAA, in .32 Magnum/.32-20. I also have a M15 that I am converting to a 6" .327 Magnum, which of course will fire all of the shorter straight wall .32s.
I think it's a great round. I have a 432PD that's very accurate with 32 H&R. Also have a 632-1 in 327 Fed Mag and it too shoots the 32 H&R well.

Pressure doesn't make it a magnum.. Case volume does.
I Taurus Snub in 327 Federal and I mostly shoot 32 H&R Mag in it. Fun to shoot and I wouldn't want to be on the other end of some hot loads. Nice carry gun for a lady as well.

Knew a guy who was a nut about them. And reports seem to confirm this. HOWEVER...there's the thing about ammo. It's not everywhere, and of course you can reload, but I believe choices aren't all that universal and prices are high. The other thing is in 20 years, .38/.357 ammo will still be around. I'm not so sure about the .32 H&R Mag. So in that regard, it is what it is and so long as you go into it with your eyes wide open, you're good.

32 MAGNUMS
Have three, this 8'' Mdl 16, and a couple Rugers, one being a convertible with a 32/20 cylinder. Work fine for me with Hornady's XTP bullet over a charge of 800X., using Starline brass. Stay away from Federal brass, loaded or not.

The 32 Magnum is proof...
The 32 Magnum cartridge is proof of why I would go broke manufacturing guns. I thought (and still do) that the 32 Magnum would make a excellent self-defense cartridge. It adds one additional round to the J-Frame and has less recoil than the 38 Special while still giving good expansion from short barrel revolver.

Great round. I would love to get my Titanium model 332 back that I sold years ago. 6 rounds, and really no material difference in ballistics performance from .38. If you wanted deep concealment in a lightweight package, (11 oz.) from a revolver there was nothing better.

I will trade a alloy J frame 38 special for a J frame 32H&R any day of the week and not just because the 32 has a higher resale value.
6 shots vs 5 shots of near equal power and less recoil.
I have a 16-4 and its great. It is fitted with a K22 cylinder reamed to 327. I have a J frame cylinder reamed to 32H&R, but no alloy framed 32.

I like all things .32 Have a total of 6, of which 4 handle the .32 H&R nicely.
I recently picked up a 4” 16-4. It’s a nice looking range gun, but not sure what else I would use a K frame .32 for; however I like the idea of a 6 shot J frame.
I also had bad luck with Federal ammo case’s splitting. They’re supposedly sending me a replacement box along with a bulk pack of .22lr with bad crimps.
