Benchmade Warranty

I had to THROW ONE AWAY in the Denver Airport! I am still mad about it. Got in line and forgot it was in my pocket and my bags were checked. I wrote Benchmade telling them they should lobby for reasonable TSA regulations (I know, like lobbying for good government). Week later I received a new knife of the same model in the mail! With a letter from a VP saying good luck in trying to talk sense into TSA!
Years ago I had a Buck boot knife in my carry on bag that I had forgot about . The TSA people found it and sent me back to the desk to put it in a box and check it . I don't guess that's still an option .

I had the same thing happen to me in Sacramento. I found a big flower pot in the food court and buried it about 6' deep. Dug it up 3 weeks later when I returned.

I also had the same ZT 801 Ti discovered in my carry on by the security folks at the Manila airport. Luckily they are a huge fan of my employer and allowed me to call my driver to come pick it up from a security officer. My ZT 801 Ti has survived two close calls with airport security, hopefully there's not a third.

Must have been a really deep flower pot, not to mention you did it sans shovel! :)

I carry a MiniGrip daily. It's the best pocket knife I've ever owned. Joe

Back when I purchased the original auto opener, it was all the rage with the officers. I had to have one and the cost was almost a weeks pay (IIRC) at $170. I'm thinking that we could buy a Smith model 64 for not much more (departmental prices).

So it was a big expenditure at the time. I still miss it as it was a big part of my life for so long. I will have to adjust to the new, larger Barrage. Looks to be a fine knife though. ,

Did you get your original knife back? Somebody must be able to fix it.

This is my Benchmade collection:

McHenry Williams 710. The first Axis Lock they made.

Mal Pardue Griptilian. Apparently there were 2 different models. This one e was a replacement when I THOUGHT I'd lost the 710.

Bugout. The first Benchmade I bought. It was my retirement gift to myself.

My daily carry knife has been for quite a few years, a Benchmade 9100 SBK AutoStryker, and it’s my understanding that if you ship an automatic knife back to them for repairs they will not ship it back to you unless you meet this criterion:

(PDF file...)
https://www.benchmade.com/media/forms/Warranty_Service_Letter_AKOA.pdf

Excerpt re automatic knives:

Note: Any automatic knife returned for Warranty or LifeSharp service from outside of Oregon must also include either a signed copy of the "Auto Knife Opening Acknowledgement Form", your web account username if you have already accepted the web AKO Acknowledgement, or be returned through an authorized Benchmade dealer. No exceptions will be made.

Note: The Auto Knife Opening Acknowledgement Form is page 3 of the PDF file.

I don't really have an interest in assisted/ auto openers but if I did THAT would be a deal breaker for me.

If my Infidel ever breaks, I will just have the store I bought it at ship it back for me. I find no problem with doing that. Benchmade is concerned about liability and I find no fault in that policy.

Nope. The deal is they keep the old one since they are replacing it with a new one.

When I sent the broken knife back, I took it to my Benchmade dealer. He handled the shipping.

EDIT: This knife had nearly 30 years of hard use. Since it was a discontinued model, they had no parts for it. All the moving parts were very worn. Thus they couldn't make it "factory fresh." It was more prudent on their part to replace it.

This says a lot about the company IMHO. They took the high road!

Reading this and pulled this out of my pocket and took a picture.

A Father’s Day gift from my son almost 20 years ago. Broke the clip they sent me a new one. It has been rode hard and put away wet. Probably out last me. A Mini-Grip, can’t go wrong with Benchmade, in my opinion.

My opinion? A bunch of nothing. I worried about this, so I gave it a try last year.

I sent in my daily use Infidel (dumb name IMO) for resharpening through my local sporting goods store. I filled out the AKO form. The local manager said “I have some other things to go back to Benchmade, don’t worry about about shipping” when I asked to pay.

Two weeks later, I got an email from Benchmade saying they had my knife. Two weeks after that, my local store manager called to say he had the knife back and to stop by.

Literally that easy.

When my knife was in Oregon, Benchmade put on a brand new blade on it. I had nicked the tip a small bit, as the tool steel can get worn there. It was really minor and figured they would just polish around it. Wrong - new sharp blade, but well worn aluminum body.

Made a huge amount of customer goodwill with me for both my local store and Benchmade.
