I prefer DAO hammer fired pistols but there are so few options. The older third generation Smiths, e.g., 3953, CS9D, DAO 3914 are in the rotation. Never cared much for the DA/SA counterparts and sold them off in recent years. But, I am slowly becoming accustomed to the DA/SA transition. There are more DA/SA options than dedicated DAO. The DA suits my preference as a "revolver guy" and adds a layer of safety for appendix carry.

The Beretta PX4 Storm Compact Carry (9mm), generally and with Langdon upgrades, gets rave reviews. Been eyeballing it for a while. Well, today I pulled the very nice DA/SA trigger and bought one from my friends at Carolina Sporting Arms here in Charlotte. It is just slightly smaller than a Glock 19, excellent ergonomics, smooth DA pull, night sight, three 15-round mags, etc. It is a great high-capacity AIWB option. Need to nail down the holster but look forward to putting it in the rotation after a good range test.

Anyone have experience with this pistol? Thoughts? Holster preferences?

Im not sure it really does anything "special" for me, cause I prefer all metal guns but it definitely fill the DA/SA polymer/lighter concealable firearm slot.

I can see the standard PX4 storm competing against a Glock or similar firearm with people who are worried about a safety or perceived "light trigger"

I agree about the metal frame versus polymer frame. Much prefer a metal frame. For those who absolutely must have a metal frame, the CZ P-01 is a good option. Have one of those in DA/SA as well.

I've got one as well, bought it used and sent it off to Langdon for a workover. It was nice before it went, it is OUTSANDING now. Super smooth trigger, decock only, slick slide and the size is perfect for carry IWB. The only pistols that give it "competition" in my carry rotation are my CS45, a SW99compact in .40, and a Walther P5 in 9, which I really won't carry as I don't want it ever to be found in some evidence locker. (There is a Shield 9 and 380, both EZs and both in the safe, in anticipation of hand problems, some day, that aren't actually carried yet.)

I'm considering either buying a PX 4 in .40 (unless I can find just a complete slide assembly and some mags) and putting the .40 top on the Langdon 9 frame, for a little bit more ooomph, but I gotta find a decent deal to do that. I also put a laser in the 9m my first, but had to work pretty hard to find a holster to accomodate the laser. Remora makes one; I'd suggest you call 'em and describe your gun to get the right size.

('Fess up time: I'm looking for a PX4 in .45acp which I'd rather have than the .40. I just like big bullets. But again, it's gotta be a good deal as the 9 is plenty of gun. Of course, if I land one it'll go to Langdon in a heartbeat.)

I looked at the subcompact version in a local shop. They're supposed to be great guns, but man it's a chunk. It just seems so thick and blocky compared to some other designs. It may not really be that different, but it just seems that way to me.

First Carolina Sporting Arms is a nice spot with good used gun prices and a gorgeous range! Only wished I lived in Pineville still so I could get there quicker!

The beretta is a nice pistol and Langdon made it real nice. I had one for about a year. It shot well, had zero issues, and the Langdon upgrades really brought the pistol up a few levels. In my opinion its certainly one of the best compact DA/SA pistols on the market. For me it was just too thick and chunky. Fine for home defense but with a nice compact, I wanted to carry it and it just didn’t work out.

I still look for them occasionally and for the right price would buy one again. However currently the Langdon tactical examples are like $900+ on gunbroker and I’ve never seen one locally (apparently I need to get my butt back over to CSA more often!).

I’m a big fan of DAO for CCW since it works just like my revolvers so I went for a P2000 in LEM. Never tried Storm but it looks intriguing.

The subcompact uses the Browning tilting barrel system rather than the superior rotating barrel lockup of the compact and fullsize models.

We were trained on DA/SA pistols after we changed from revolvers. Though not the same, I have carried them for over 20 years. One alloy frame pistol I have carried for over 20 years, a CS 45, and I love it.

Thank you. I read that post. Looks like a nice holster. I need something purpose built for appendix carry. It would ideally have a claw or wing to push the grip in. The guys that Watchdog Tactical can make one. Will also look at JM Custom Kydex.

On another note, took the Beretta to the range today. Was great. Not sure what else to say about it. Just freaking fantastic. I feel guilty. Like I am cheating on my revolvers.

The folks at Watchdog Tactical made this holster for me today. Want to swap out the plastic clip for the low profile Discreet Carry Concepts clip.
