Real men ALWAYS carry a pocket knife.

I have been carrying the Buck 303 folding knife lately. It cut the hoop cheese really good last night. :-)

I need to get it sharp, but I haven't really tried. It was used when I received it and not very sharp. If I want a sharp knife I will get another one out that is sharp, but doesn't hold an edge very well.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

I'm 72, been carrying a pocket knife since I was 4-5 years old. Was never questioned about carrying a knife during any school. Still carry one every day. I switch around from time to time, no certain kind. But lately it makes sense to carry something you can open with one hand for obvious reasons. I probably own over two hundred knives. You might say I like knives. Last few years, I've been making sheath knives as gifts for family and friends.
As far as neck knives, can't see a reason for them. And I'm not wearing any kind of cords or straps around my neck that won't breakaway under tension.
As someone mentioned earlier, I carry my knife on the off side (left for me). My right pocket usually has something else in it.
BTW, my wife carries a small SAK in her purse, wouldn't be caught without it.

I started carrying one when I was about seven. Like most here, I have a bunch of knives. I finally took photos of the two I carry most often, and lately, it's the CRKT more often than not. And it seems fitting, as I live only about ten miles from the Columbia River:

I've had a pocket knife since I was 10 or 11. I carry a Schrade 3 blade now. Once dressed my buck out with it.

I have an Old Timer 3-blade that I found somewhere around 1991, and I've cleaned and skinned three deer with it. It's been retired to my display shelf.

Saying about a man “He carries a dull knife”. IS a great insult where I’m from.
And I was on the receiving end one time. Had furiously been using my knife to cut cardboard. It got dull, I had not sharpened it (yet). Loaned it to a fella, he tried to cut something, looked over at me, and said, “This sure doesn’t meet your standards”. That really cut :) I was embarrassed.

Good Steel on the Cheap

Everyday carry, Sheffield Knife brand, $1.99
Black Friday special from Menard’s.
Holds an edge nicely. Always kept sharp.

The Pilot ink pen is useful too.

Well, you had to drag it out of me but: I had been carrying a Spyderco Native plain edge 3" blade for 30yrs. I lost it last year and tried several replacements of different styles from different manufacturers. I wound up buying two Native replacements in case I lose another. I bought used instead of new because I like the old blade design and so I could get ones made in Golden, Co.. I guess not a manly man killer knife but very utilitarian.

Back when I was AWAC'in', the cool thing to do was to cut the flap off the sleeve pen pocket of your flight suit. I saved these flaps and my wife made knife pockets in the pant legs for my Wayne Goddard Spyderco:

These days, it's a rather large ZT, one with a point! The "Gibbs" model does not have a useful point, and I think a knife needs one:

Pocket Knives

A couple of comments. Automatic knives are not legal for the average citizen to carry outside his residence, in Pennsylvania. They are legal for LE Officers but when you retire buy better sell any that you own.
I was given a Boker scout knife when I was a Cub Scout, 65 years ago. I still have it, but I see that the cost of this model is over $200.00 now. My son used it when he was in the scouts but he later returned it to me. It sits in my safe now
I always carry a small 2 3/4 inch blade buck for my EDC knife. When ever the wife and I take a cruise I always put a small cheap knife in my pocket in case they would decide to confiscate it.

i can't remember ever not carrying a knife. have 1 on my keychain. trapper in my front pocket. large single blade folder in my right rear pocket.

i work at a steel mill that is now on it's fourth owners. newest owners are from Columbia. i work in the lab in an office complex. lots of offices in same area. the new owners overwhelmingly hire young Hispanic engineers for production supervisory jobs.

i am a friendly sort and chat with the young folks that they hire. one of the young guys came in the lab and asked if we had an aerosol can killer for disposal. i whipped out my trusty large folder and terminated said spray can.

went to my lunch box and got an extra knife out of it and gave it to Orlando. he was blown away and got me thinking.

i have a friend that runs a pawn shop and there is always a selection of inexpensive large single blade folders. i buy them for $5.00 each usually 5 or 10 at a time. i have been giving them away to any of the young people who don't have a knife when i ask to borrow one.

so far I've probably given away 6 or 7 to these young people. their culture doesn't permit carrying a weapon.

waiting for the next local gunshow to expose them to the freedoms that we sometimes take for granted. they may think i'm loco but i take a lot of pleasure in sharing some of the American way with them

iv'e only taken 1 to the range so far but intend to take any of them that will accept the opportunity.

makes me proud of our Country despite the mess we see daily.

we are truely BLESSED. in God we trust in action. kenny

Does your pocket knife have to be sharp to qualify you as a "Real Man"?

If you can't shave with a knife then it would technically be called a butter knife. :D

Pic of Bear MGC, between shaves, getting some new slabs as one side broke when it hit the concrete.
S&W key on ring for size of blade comparison.
I carry an old Gerber Guardian when I'm in overalls as well.

I'm never without a pocket knife (a 2.5" to 3" old school traditional bone handled folder). Only on the RARE events where I'm on a commercial plane will it not be in my pocket. I use it multiple times a day for assorted mundane tasks... Opening animal feed bags, packages, opening letters/mail, food prep, etc. It's the sharpest knife in the house always and just gets the job done quick. I'd be ill equipped for the day without it.

Always carried by me.

Benchmade Skirmish and Leatherman Surge which has knife blades also.

Carried this Swiss Army model for almost 50 years. Retired it for a Benchmade Griptillian.
