Does anyone carry this pistol? I was wondering what carry method is suggested for carrying it. I am old fashion and mostly carry a revolver, and am somewhat skeptical of carrying a pistol with one in the chamber, but if you don't, it isn't much good in an emergency.

I have a CZ 83 but really don't use it for carry. I would be OK carrying hammer down with one in the chamber. For a couple of reasons -

The DA pull on the CZ 83 is pretty stout. And the hammer is a rebounding type and doesn't rest on the firing pin. I doubt that 'just right" accidental drop wherein the gun falls on its hammer would make it go bang. That the safety can't be engaged unless the hammer is cocked wouldn't bother me.

I'm generally a revolver guy for carry but have tried all the striker fired stuff but was not comfortable with them fully loaded. Others are, that's fine. I carry a Kahr PMM40 because like the DA/SA exposed semi pistols, the firing mechanism is at full rest and a deliberate, long "DA revolver" or semi pistol pull is required. It has a firing pin block, OK. But the main draw is the DA pull & FP spring at rest.

As an aside, the new 30 caliber carry round presents ballistics alot like the 9mm Makarov. The CZ 83 or a Polish 64 loaded with Hornady would be a pretty good choice.

I carry a CZ82 quite often cocked and locked in an OWB holster that has a leather retention strap that rests in between the hammer and the firing pin. I've carried a 1911 enough to be comfortable swiping the safety off when drawn.

My CZ82 has a wonderful DA trigger though. Fantastic little pistol.

I think it is as safe as a revolver. The first shot is just like a revolver. I will not carry an internal hammer or striker fired pistol with one in the chamber and it doesn't matter how many or what kind of safety. A safety is mechanical and mechanical things can fail. Larry

Thanks for the opinions. I have been carrying the pistol with one in the chamber and the hammer half cocked, with the holster strap, a pancake holster, between the hammer and pistol. When drawn, it is good to go on a full trigger pull. What thinks you?

I used to carry a Walther PPK/S which is of similar design to the CZ83.

I experimented with a few different Holsters. First I tried a Pocket Holster, then a Shoulder Holster, followed by an OWB Holster, but I was never really comfortable with any of them. In hindsight, the Shoulder Holster was probably the best of them all, but it was also my least favorite way to carry it.
Ultimately, I retired the PPK/S in favor of the smaller, lighter, Ruger LCP, which I carry in a Pocket Holster.

If I were to carry the PPK/S again as an EDC, then I would probably get a nice Leather IWB Holster then carry it at a 4:30 position, as I imagine that would be the best, most comfortable way to carry it.

I carry a CZ82 at times and I carry it cocked and locked in a OWB leather holster. if you can put a holster thumb strap between the hammer and the firing pin all the better but train drawing from the holster so when you need it you can draw it cleanly.

Found this one for $200 with no mags. Got some OEM mags direct from CZ USA plus some grips from grips4u.

I would not hesitate to use this for a carry gun. Presently I mostly just admire it. I had it for several years before I realized that the nickel finish was factory original.

OP - put that dang CZ back into the safe, and get down to the store and get yourself a Glock 43 ;). In all seriousness, they are a great little pistol and I have a couple of them. But, they are too big and too heavy to be with me all the time when I might possibly need something. Thus, the somewhat in jest comment about the Glock 43.

Before it was stolen I would carry my CZ 82 with a round chambered, hammer down for a DA first shot. The 9x18 Makarov is pretty zippy round. The gun is a hoot to shoot!

I have an 83 in the back of the safe and bring it out occasionally. I've looked for an owb holster but haven't had any luck buying locally. What are you using to CC this pistol?
