Considering a CSX-E

As the title states, am considering acquiring a CSX-E. I’ve fondled some, as well as some standard CSXs and am impressed at the ergos. On the 4-5 examples I looked at, trigger quality was from fair to good.

I am also considering a small revolver- diamondback SDR. I fondled one as well and was impressed. Both guns are similar in size.

Purpose will be carry and some light competition ( IDPA/ ICORE).

I like the simplicity of revolvers, but also shoot / carry semi autos too; Sig 365, Ruger LCR, or CZ P10c.

So for those with CSX E experience, what are your thoughts on it as a carry gun?
 
Just bought a 3.6" CSX-E to add to my EDC rotation. Love the ergonomics! I've configured mine with the large grip module that allows the 15rd mag to be used without the spacer. I'm looking forward to running it this weekend.20250528_185908.jpg
 
FWIW...my CSX E 3.6 inch barrel has become my primary everyday carry. It relegated my Shield Plus to backup...POI is POA at least with mine...sights seem to be perfectly aligned.
Trigger is crisp, no mush, short reset and the trigger and the accuracy is what made it my everyday carry. In my biased opinion you really can't go wrong with the CSX E (either barrel length)

If you are satisfied with the ergos with the CSX E I recommend shooting one if you can at a rental range. I've had mine for about 3 months and get 3 fingers on the grip with the 12 round mag installed. Carry it in a Galco IWB pouch. I like mine a lot.
 
Your gun looks darn nice!! Liked the looks of them to begin with. Plus metal is a plus along with the size. like to get to try one at my club. They seem to have a following for a gun that has a short history. Price is decent.
 
I bought one a few months back.
So far about 400 rounds with a number of loads, both factory and hand-loads, and 100% function.
I haven't been able to get a holster I really like but a 1791 is fine for now.

I actually put my Dan Wesson Valkyrie Commander in 9mm back in the safe a few weeks ago,
The CSX, for me, is a winner.

Took the plunge and acquired a CSX-E 3.1 today. Will be a few days before I get to the range to give it a workout, but I’m eager with anticipation :)

No pics, but took my CSX to shoot after my ICORE match today.

Bottom line it was reliable and accurate. I need to work on my tigger control, but all rounds were on the target at 10 yards. I shot at a quick cadence, not uber fast, but pulled the trigger each time the front sight was center mass of the target.

Was very pleased at the recoil impulse, much less than I anticipated for such a small gun. Was shooting my 124 gr reloads that make USPSA power factor.

Now to shoot it more and find a decent holster(s):D

sounds good but good luck finding a holster unless you want Kydex....there are plenty of those available but if you looking for a good leather holster for the CSX.....good hunting....
 
Check out Craft Holster. Just received my OWB customized for optic and C and L carry. Very nice leather holster.
 
I’ve found a few vendors/ manufacturers who make leather OWB & IWB for the CSX, but there is a build time of anywhere from 6-20+ weeks. Some I have for other guns & great quality, but I want one now. Think I’ll get a kydex for the interim and decide on a good leather for the future

Muddy river tactical has a leather owb available.
 
DeSantis had mine in stock. Received in a week....perfect and inexpensive.

The csx series imo is about the only line of semi autos that s&w makes that I think are worth getting. Hammer fired, compact, double stacked and metal. There's it's enough weight behind them that they stay on target.
If there was one thing they could fix on it it would have to be the trigger. Put a da/sa on that platform, it would corner that market.
I carry my csx as a back up, I often carry a 1911/2011 as primary. Range time with the csx often leads to a sore trigger finger as it does get stiff after a couple hundred rounds.
Is the E series just as stiff as the original? Not that it will deter me from getting one. Out of all the micros out there i don't think you can get a better value.
 
Had another opportunity to shoot my new CSX E today- my club hosted an IDPA classifier, using the older 72 rd version. The gun ran fine, no malfunctioning or any manipulation issues.

I scored SS, doing well except for the weak hand, strong hand strings. Something I need to work on. Think I did well with this gun after only 2 range sessions.

I hope to use it more in BUG division in the near future. A fun gun
 
Had a short abbreviated shooting session with my CSX-E along with my CZ P07. Also tested some defensive ammo with my CSX-E- ran fine.

I do enjoy shooting the CSX-E. I need to work on it some, learning its trigger. When I take my time, it excels, when I rush I get some poor shots. It comes down to familiarity IMO as this was only the 3d outing with it.

I used my new Black Arch proto m IWB holster. That too worked fine.

More range reports in the future
 
I shot my CSX-E again, earlier this week. No surprises, meaning it worked superbly. I conducted a series of drills to include strong hand and weak hand only. Am pleased with my performance with this little gun. I need to shoot it more to gain proficiency, but it’s performance is rewarding.

Ive yet to experience any malfunction, or issues. I’m pleased with this gun and plan on shooting it much more after my IDPA season is over.

Anyone know if the E series mags fit the original? Don't want to get the E when I already have a CSX but would like to get the bigger mags. Not sure if this has already been addressed elsewhere.
 
I believe that they are the same, most of the "E" series changes were internal to improve the triggers.

While I don't know if the new E series mags will fit the original, I do know the old CSX 12 round mags will fit the new E series and function correctly.
