Thanks for sharing. There are different opinions but I have always felt it is a really good, no-nonsense platform. Surprisingly accurate, as well. Easy to disassemble and clean. Ammo used to be cheap years ago (along with the guns).
I am not fluent on these, but still have a like new MAK90. Had two, sold one. They are surprisingly accurate; chrome-lined barrel, good receiver.
You got a very good deal on the under-folder. Again, I am not current on the market, but thought those were going for around $1600.00 USD not long ago.

You stole both of them at that price.
The folder looks like a converted MAK90 with the bayonet lug ground off and the de-threaded barrel.
I have a Polytech with the folding bayonet, a Maddi, and a milled Hungarian.
Love me some AK's!

Oh, to have a time machine! Back in the late 80's or early 90's (pre-ban), I bought an under folder like yours NIB for $250 at a local pawn shop. IIRC, he was selling them like hot cakes. I remember it having 2 of the banana magazines. I shot it a few times. The under folder stock was not real pleasant to shoot. Around a year later, I traded it even up for an Italian made Beretta 92F. I think it was priced at $650. This was back when you could buy a SKS and case of ammo for less than $200.
I wish I had bought a half dozen of the AK's or didn't get rid of the one I had!

A quick check on GB shows bidding around $2,500.00. And a separate listing for another @ $3,500.00 with no takers. I guess real price is somewhere between the two.
I bought mine a fair number of years back and promptly took it out of CA to OR retirement home. Had no idea they were worth something.

Yep, some are worth a lot to AK collectors.
This is a semi auto.

It wasn't until the 1960's that the stamped receiver was perfected and used on the AKM and subsequent variants.

the chinese variants used slightly thicker metal in the stamping process... 1.5mm vs 1mm or something like that... I have an old NHM that is one of the crazy over stamped receivers that were modified to make it to American soil with the A.W.B. well built rifle

Congratulations. The Chinese produced a very reliable semi variant (not all of the commercial ones here in the States are).
To improve the shootability (if that's a word) wrap the arm(s) of the folder in paracord. Was more or less a standard mod here in the States when AKs were cheaper than dirt.
You can thank me after you crank it up in a range session.

That folder has me stumped. Looks to have no side markings at all.
Click the pic for monster size.

Ive always preferred the 7.62x39 round to the .223 so cheap guns that shoot that round got my attention. When the AK47 variants were cheap ($200) I bought a few. I kept a couple but as prices rose sold most off.Nowadays I get a good chuckle how much those $200 rifles bring. Same with old cars and trucks. Smiling makes old age worth the trip..

Always amazing stuff CLASSIC12. You're killing me with your CAR15 (XM177).
Here are a couple Polytechs and a Norinco 84 (223).
The variety of weapons used by the VC/NVA was astonishing and included many left over French guns, not to mention captured American arms. I saw more Chinese underfolder AKs than anything, but even the lowly SKS was fired at us. They were mostly 2nd tier fighters with those. You knew you were up against front line bad guys when the big green 12.7 footballs came at you.

I remember when those Norinco AK47's and folding spike bayonet SKS's were first available back in the mid 1980's, had two of each but never really loved them.
When the 1950's era folding blade Russian SKS's and dog ear front site AK's appeared a few years later I got rid of the chicoms and replaced them with Eastern European made guns.
