Not very knowledgable on these at all; hopeful for recommendations. Found locally at a gun shop this morning a: DIAMONDBACK DB10 .308 WIN 16" BARREL for about $1K.

Are these decent for 200-300 yards at the range? Other brands to recommend?

Scope recommendations?

Just plinking, not really interested in high-end options at this time, Thanks:)

I really like my 1 month old Ruger SFAR. It was in that same price range.

Yes, it’ll be good at that range and much more.

No idea on optics. I can’t decide myself.

This is my first AR-10 style gun so no real experience to tell you.

Good luck.

Windham Weaponry makes a good, dependable 308 AR but it’s not at that price point. I have their R16SFST-308 and like it a lot.

There are at least a bazillion scopes to choose from. If you are shooting at a range out to 300 yards, something like Leupold’s VX-3HD 1.5-5x non-illuminated scope (180615) is about $500. Nothing fancy about the reticle but a good field of view, very usable magnification for you, and comfortable eye relief. lightweight and good performance in low light. But there are so many options to choose from…

If I were in the market today for a good, reasonably priced AR-10, I would take a good look at a PSA version, especially when on sale, or with a "blem". They get very good reviews.

I dont have one, but have built 2 AR-15's off their kits in the last year, and have been impressed with their quality to dollar ratio.

I have a .308 DPMS ORC that is also a nice budget AR-10, but they are now out of business, I believe.

For a scope, I would look at a 1x6 or maybe 1x8 scope with an illuminated reticle. Can be used at 1x with both eyes open like a red dot, or zoomed out for longer distances. Vortex "Strike Eagle" series are good buys for the $$. Again, PSA often sells them on sale with a Vortex mount included.

Wanted to add, R/E the DB AR-10, a friend bought one about the same time I picked up my DPMS version. Both in the seven hundred dollar and change range. His looked well made, and had a free floated forend to boot. His has proven accurate, but he only has maybe 100 rounds thru it. My DPMS has maybe a thousand rounds thru it, and other than a gas block that came loose and had to be realigned and tightened - no issues, and accurate. My Armalite AR-10t is a nicer rifle than either, but should be for twice plus in price.

I have a Windam R18FSFST-308, a 18" fluted chrome lined, chrome-moly barrel and a 15" Key-Loc handguard. M-4 style 6 position buttstock. The total picatinny rail is about 21" long. Barrel is 1:10 and has a A2 flash Suppressor. Weighs in at 8 pounds plus accessories. 2018 MSRP $1708, actual price was about $1400 OTD

When I found an ammo it likes (Hornady Custom Hunting 155 gr. I bought 2 cases) I get just over 1" at 100yds using a Leupold 4.5-14 Veri-X III 40mm AO, in a one-piece scope base from Leupold.

I like to shoot from a bench or prone, so I stick with 20 round P-Mags. (It comes w/1, then I have about 10) Rather than an over expensive DD bipod base ($39 +/-) I used a standard sling stud with machine threads in one of the front key holes. (about 89 cents) I use a Harris bipod. I also have pop up front and rear sights.

I have an adapter for my silencer, but never tried it. (Makes it a very long gun!)

A friend has a DPMS that looks like an M-4 on steroids. Was about $900 OTD in 2018, but everything about it feels cheap. He won't show or tell me group sizes!

I just put together a Primary Arms lower and a Bear Creek upper. I haven't shot it for groups yet, only to break in the barrel. So far I'm happy with it. I probably have $600 into it.

After seeing spotty reviews on the PSA and POF, I ended up buying a Sig 716i Tread.

It's been completely reliable through ~ 250rnds so far. I replaced the crisp but very heavy stock trigger with a Geissele, and added the Sig ambi charging handle and a muzzle device to work with my suppressor.

IMHO, it's a pretty good rifle in 'between' the $1k cheapos and $3k expensive stuff like DD and others.

In the pic, it's wearing a stock borrowed from one of my 5.56 guns, still haven't settled on a stock for it. It's a little overgassed with the suppressor, still looking into adjustable gas block options. Scope is a 1-10x Athlon Ares... pretty good LPVO for the price range. I do think I'm going to switch to a 4-16x or 3-18x. Accuracy so far is ~1.5 MOA... it likes heavier bullets, still experimenting with ammo.

If I were to do it over again today, I would probably buy the Ruger SFAR. I may buy one anyway, and sell it or the Sig depending on which I like better. The Ruger looks like a good value, and has some nice features beyond the small frame.

I went SIG as well... they don't really offer the model anymore... extreme reliability, but no real parts interchangeability.. just uses std SR25 mags.. just a plinker for me... for extreme precision work I use my MIA NM..

I’m surprised no one recommended the S&W M&P-10. I have one and it’s a nice little carbine. I put a Trijicon ACOG on it that cost about as much as the rifle.

I bought an Armalite AR10T decades ago and have never needed another. It will put any ammo into a 2" group at 100yds and its favorite under 1". I upgraded to a Trigicon 3-9 scope 15 years ago and Im pretty sure this will be the last AR platform gun I'll ever need. Go with the original I always say.

I also have a 901 with a scope and bipod. It's not lightweight. I thought the interchangeability was clever. That being said I've only used it with .308. Shoots nice.

Got my SIL a deal on a S&W that he seems to like.
As another posted has stated, my first 308 AR was Armalite 10T and I haven't felt the need to look further. Although, if I did, I'd check Rock River.

Scopes
Without going too overboard on prices, I currently lean toward Burris. Nikon was good when they were making rifle scopes. Probably some good used ones out there but not sure what's in store for any lifetime warranties now???
