Anyone else disappointed with the Factory grips on there new model Pythons. You'd think for a $1500 gun they'd use something other than laminated wood. Has anyone put Culina's on there's. Here is a picture of what I'm talking about. Looks like plywood to me

They're nothing special. I'm impressed by the metallurgy of the gun but the grips and rear sight seem to be the biggest complaints. I'll get a replacement rear sight for mine someday.

I contacted Culina's about some American Holly targets but never got a reply, so I made a set out of elk stag.

I also rehabbed a set of older Python grips a previous owner had sanded down. I didn't quite get the medallions flush but otherwise it worked out well.

Yep..........Laminated. A fancy word for plywood. And the funky rear sight that takes an Allen wrench and a screw driver to adjust........So you by a $1500 gun and have to spend a couple of hundred more for a good rear sight and grips.......IF they still had the old Accro sight I'd be owning a 3 in today.

I'm not so much against the material/color/looks of the stock Python grips (new version). However, if I were going to be a Python buyer it'd be the 3" version. That's where I have a beef with the current grips. Fifteen $100.00 bills and they can't put a pair of concealment grips on it instead of that chair leg?

I'll go along with the old tooling and equipment being long gone, but there are PLENTY of talented people who could re create the old Royal Blue.

As I like to say, it ain't rocket surgery!

The big issue with the Royal Blue is the polishing required to get the surface prepped for the blue...and few know how to do that anymore...plus the added expense of it. Colt's polishing is done by tumblers now...not human hands as it's a cost saver.

What Colt has done is make some Pythons with DLC...Diamond-Like Coating over stainless...and the ones I've seen have been spectacular! They definitely rival or actually surpass Royal Blue. They've been special ordered through the Custom Shop but may...I repeat...may...become a catalogued item or listed as a special order. To my knowledge no decision has been made on that.

As far as the stocks go...I don't normally like most factory stocks no matter what company it is...and they're easily swapped out for something that fits my hand better or suits me aesthetically. I can always put the factory stocks back on.

Well, at least with the Python you get wood. The King Cobra comes with Hogues and they aren’t the standard D grip frame, so wood grips are very limited…….

I didnt want to say Plywood and offend all the Alamont fan boys

From Altamont's website:

"Fitting Info: ALTAMONT® makes the OEM grips for the Colt Python 2020. Any grips listed here will also fit the 2020 model. These Colt Python grips will also fit the 2021 Anaconda model."

Curiously, all of their grips for the Python are "temporarily unavailable"...

I replaced the factory grips on my 2020 with some 60 buck Thailand specials from eBay. The factory grips felt nice but didn’t have that Python look.

As far as bluing goes, Colt still sells blued SAAs, so somebody must know how. As noted above, I suspect they don’t want to do the polishing involved.

The Altamont Colt and heritage S&W grips are similar in my opinion. They look right but do not feel right. They are too narrow and sharp along the rear chine.

I’m running “old” Python grips on mine. Feel just right. As regards the rear sight, its ok but I have a Wilson on order.

I wasn’t disappointed, I think Altamont did a good job. They are definitely nicer than the rubber grips that come on most guns. I have Herrett, Eagle, Hogue and 2nd Gens on my new pythons. All look and feel great! Plenty of options out there.

I'd like to have a blue option, but I don't have it, so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Maybe someday. I'm just glad I was able to buy a new Python. When they quit making them, and the prices went out of sight I never thought I'd own one.

I actually like the grips. They feel great, and handle the recoil well. I actually like the "dull" look against the bright metal.

I wish I didn't need the allen wrench for the sights, but I had one the right size, and don't really adjust them all that often anyway. They work well enough for me.
