Probably the wrong thread but the post will get moved if it is. I picked one of these up to put on and old 270. Anyone heard of them? Has German #1 style cross hairs.

Hubertus was (still is?) a Retailer of outdoor/sporting/hunting/shooting equipment. They've been in biz since before WW2 at least.
Same type of retailer as AKAH, GECO, etc.
AFAIK they were still in business in the 80's.

(St. Hubertus is the patron Saint of Hunters)

Some of the sniper scopes supplied to the German forces in WW2 were marked Hubertus being sourced from them.

The 'scopes were made for them by prime optics makers. Sometimes those makers marks are on the scope, sometimes not.

Someone with a lot more knowledge about optics can likely tell you when that particular model was mfg (Pre-War or Post-War) and who the actual mfgr was.

That's what I have been told about the name.
Right now, Kreighoff uses the Hubertus name as a Model designation for a high dollar single shot hunting rifle.

Hubertus is the patron saint of hunters and the name was used by Kettner or Frankonia to sell accessories under their house brand. The scopes were made by companies from Schmidt & Bender to Japanese manufacturers. German manufacturers usually had put a serial number on the scope.

Yes, that's what has me stumped. No other markings anywhere.

The Hubertus name is still kicking around but today they are inexpensive scopes for airguns. Probably sourced in China.

However, since yours has the German # 1 crosshairs I'll assume it looks to be of vintage manufacture too.

It could be actually made by Schmidt & Bender and be of good quality. Have you measured the tube diameter ? It may need rings other than the usual 1" ones. But could be a good match on an old .270. A lot of guys like to use vintage scopes with vintage rifles. Although they can't be counted upon not to fog under certain weather conditions.

It came with rings set up for Weaver mounts so I didn't measure the tube. My suspicion is that the scope is probably similar vintage to my rifle, 1968.

Without several photos, the identification is impossible. Reticle 1 says nothing about provenience, I have several Hubertus scopes that are not German and even American scopes with reticle one.
