Value of High Standard 22rf revolver
Bought in the 70's, very good condition with box and instructions. I found examples varying from $395 to $900+. I have no photos as it is my Father in laws gun in CA.
Thanks for replies

There are several different models, You need to tell us the Model, barrel length, type of finish & weather it has box and original papers.
I have had very good luck shooting my HS revolvers, but there is a world of difference in the models values!

Probably the lower end of that range...there is always someone testing the waters by asking $950 for a $400 gun.
High Standard made great guns but there is little collector interest in their revolvers right now, although the high condition and box certainly add to value.
They made two models as I remember. We'll need a pic or two to proceed.

It could be a Double Nine, a Colt SAA-like gun but SA/DA, or a more traditional-appearing SA/DA Sentinel. The latter has seen some more collector interest in recent years, but I suspect a pristine example with box and paperwork would probably not go for more than $400 or so.

Depends on the model of course, and the condition of both the gun and the box,. Reviewing actual completed auctions I come up with the range of $300-$500 with the guns in excellent condition and the box going towards the higher end of that range and the run-of-the-mill guns no box towards the lower end. Some $600 starting auctions didn't catch a bid.
It seems the variant makes a great deal of difference. Nickel Double-Nines seem to fetch a good price. Some of the other less common ones do also so there must be some collector interest. There were a few different variations of the Sentinel. Add in three finishes, at least three barrel lengths, .22lr or .22 magnum. The 4" was most common, as was .22lr, in a blued finish. So a 2" satin nickel .22 magnum should be worth more
High Standard made quite a few variations in models, barrel lengths, and finishes so if yours is a less common one it's at that higher end.

Here is an example of a HS Sentinel. Even in this poor cosmetic condition a shooter like this is worth around $250.

Assuming FIL may not be the best on guns, a basic question to him would be "does it look like it would have been carried by Sgt Friday or Matt Dillon?"
The Sgt Friday version is called the Sentinel and Matt Dillon's is generally called the Double Nine. I have maybe a dozen or so total. The Sentinels can go from under $200.00 to maybe just under $350.00, Double Nine can start the same but go over $400.00.
There are exceptions, such as the later steel framed Sentinel that get more and a few longer barreled or convertible Double Nines.
I guess that on either one in good shape, were it about $200.00 I'd grab it straight away. Anything $350.00 or more, I'd have to think about it.
