Never owned a Kimber till today. The wife took a shine to my 642 so I decided to try a Kimber K6XS. Spice of life and all..
K6XS has an Aluminum frame,SS cylinder and barrel, just like the 642.
A new 642 is about $100 less than the K6. Advantage Smith.
The Kimber weighs 1/2 oz. more than the 642 (both unloaded) Advantage 642.
Pretty much exact in overall dimensions..a miniscule nod to the 642 in size. A wash.
K6 holds 6 rounds..advantage Kimber. Nice recessed cylinder too..but no biggie..just a cool factor.
Trigger on the 642 is overall smoother, but the K6 is easier to stage for a precision shot as the cylinder locks in well before the hammer drops. Wash.
Kimber trigger pull is 10lbs. 642 is 9lbs. The finger arc is more comfortable on the 642 vs the K6 with my fat finger. Advantage S&W.
Sights on the Kimber are better for me..but neither is a target gun. Wash.
Ill start carrying/shooting the Kimber and see if it's going to be a keeper.
It's nice to have choices.
