I am interested in running the Federal 158gr +p LSWCHP (HOLLOW POINT Ammo : Ammunition To Go) through a a couple of snubbies and a 4 incher. The snubbies are a S&W pre lock M60 with a 2.18" barrel 357, a Taurus UL85 (aluminum frame/steel cylinder), and the 4" is a Ruger GP-100. Any info would be appreciated. The only info I seem to be able to find on the "FBI Load" is for the Remington and the Winchester varieties.

The Federal is comparable to the Remington and Winchester. This load is considered by many to be THE load for snubby revolver's. In a J frame and an alloy frame revolver I would limet the amount of rounds fired to save wear and tear.
Is there any difference between the three brands. When reading about the differences between them, so folks (online, of course
are saying that the Federal version doesn't expand as much as the others due to the lead not being as soft. Any truth to this?

Five rounds of Federal +P 158gr semi wadcutter hollow points are sitting right next to me in my speedloader.

Check Stephen Camp's site (www.highpowersandhandguns.net) on how the various FBI loads perform. To summarize, all expand well from 4" barrels, but from 2" barrels only the soft-lead Remington's do. Stephen would be the first to say his testing system is not scientific. But then, whose is?

I test in Perma-Gel, but I think there is value in other media such as waterjugs, or wetpack. If one cartridge expands and the other doesn't, the more reliable expander will be revealed.
Buffalo Bore's FBI type loads are reputed to be very soft like Remington's. Perhaps someone on this site with actual experience with those loads will weigh in.

The badminton birdie can be batted back and forth on it till the cows come home. The Remington and the Buffalo Bore (in spades) are known as the "softest". A member named BMC could care less what lead any of the big three use for their hollow point, 'cause he prefers a LSWC. A few of us are satisfied with a full wad cutter. Still others may get warm and fuzzy over a heavy, or a light JHP? Hopefully, anyone who's gotten to the point of trying to increase their advantage by splitting hairs with their ammo, has already taken the time to become a truly proficient shooter. And so the final determinant likely won't be his/her ammo selection at all?
