Hmmm what came in the two boxes on the bottom left? I wish there were some sort of clues that I could use to figure it out....... ;)

My family moved while I was in Iraq. Wifey asked "Why are you keeping those boxes, I am going to throw them away". I replied they were needed in case I wanted to sell one. She threw the BS flag and told me "In 34 years I known you, you have never sold a gun!!" I calmly told her to pack her hummels inside of my boxes and not to stress anymore about them. My guns were already at my Dad's house luckily.

:)Are any of these for sale?

Oldtimer,
No, these are part of my M&P collection and many still have guns that go with them. Old boxes like this are out there, admittedly not seem as often as they used to be, but turning over rocks may find you some out there.
The fun is in the hunt!!

Good luck

I don't know when they stopped putting model 60s in blue boxes.

old boxes

It is interesting that old gun boxes are much rarer that the guns that were in those boxes. Think about, 50 or 75 years ago 100 guys go to the gun store and buy a handgun.

The first day the guy gets home with his gun he throws away the gun box. Guns go in a guys pocket, who needs a box. Sone of the guns may be "Cop Guns", where the new officer has to buy his own gun, that gun goes in a holster and the box goes in the trash.

Twenty years latter, of the 100 guns that were sold, let's say 10 of the guns are lost or broken, most are well worn from lack of cleaning and gereral care. Maybe 30% of the 100 guns are still in good working order and 1 or 5 of the 100 guns are still like new in the box.

70 years latter 50% of the 100 guns are gone, and maybe 1 or 2 guns are like new still in the box. These are the "Closet or Desk Drawer" guns we're all looking for. But after all this time maybe one gun box out of 100 is still around, that's what I am looking for!!.

Are old gun boxes worth the price?? Well, go to a gun show and take a $400.00 top brake in 95% shape, buy a $100.00 correct box and you have a $700.00 or $800.00 "In the box" gun. Think about it next time yoou see a nice old gun box.

Old Boxes

Here is a S&W .32 Single Action serial number 144 with Ivory stocks. Circa 1878. Green box end label marked SMITH & WESSON SINGLE 32 ACTION NICKEL 3 1/2 INCH. (followed by hand written, Ivory). I found this box at the SWCA convention this year. When I aquired this revolver it was in a non factory wood box also shown.

Here are a few top break boxes I've managed to find over the years. I've never found one at a garage sale though. In fact I've only gotten a few of them at local shows.

gunshow find

I picked this box up Sat. at the gunshow in Dothan Ala.The seller had a 10-7 snubbie sitting on top of it.When I explained to him the box was not right for the gun he just looked at me like I was crazy. When I told him I had the right gun for that box at home and wanted to buy just the empty box,he was sure I was crazy. He probably went home that night and told the story about how he sold an empty box for $20.00 to a lunatic.Oh well as long as he was happy..
