So I have about 200 rounds of ammo for my M&P that I bought a few days ago but I'm looking for the ammo to leave in it when I'm not plinking. I bought the pistol for self defense and don't mind paying high $$$ for the best .40 round. So if you're looking to do as much damage to the guy breaking into your house with a chip on his shoulder, what's the round you buy? Pretend like they're all $30 for a 50 box so that money's not factored into your thinking. Thanks

Edit: Links to suggestions would also be appreciated. Thank you.

There is a podcast at proarms.podbean.com that you might find worth listening to. It's the Keith Jones interview.

Whatever you choose, put a hundred rounds of your chosen ammo through your gun without a stoppage before trusting your life to it. Really you should fire a couple hundred rounds of range ammo for a break in before carry ammo testing.

BTW, my link posted above is FUBAR so just do a google search.

I'm in the middle of the same search for my 40c, so far I can't go wrong with Federal Hydra-Shok. I have a nice selection to feed through it later this week (I have a thread semi-started already) and the winner is going to be my standby round.

Federal Hydra-Shok
Hornady TAP
Speer Gold Dot
Remington Golden Sabre

and just added...

Winchester Ranger Talon (hard to find these days)
Winchester Supreme Bonded

I'm already partial to the Hydra-Shok due to some casual shooting where it proved incredibly accurate. The Federal HST is reportedly even better, but I can't find any.

There's always a contest between lighter & faster vs. heavier & slower. I personally like the inertia of a heavier round on my side, but no one wants to be on the receiving end of any anmo. Try several, and stick with what works well in your gun and what you are most accurate with.
