There's a good chance what I'm looking for has already been posted here somewhere, but here goes. I have a 3" 30-1 that I'd love to carry occasionally. Standard load load data is on the very conservative side. I'm not looking to turn it into a .327 Federal or anything but would appreciate some +P info. I've been reloading for quite some time now and have always been cautious about approaching or exceeding max listed loads. Pistol powders I have on hand are W231, Unique, Bullseye, 2400 and H110. I haven't, and likely won't, started casting for .32 yet. Bullets on hand are the Hornaday 90 gr SWC.

If you would prefer not to post any hotter data here feel free to email it to me. Addy should be in my profile.

TIA

You may run into leading if you try to push those Hornady SWCs very fast. The ones I tried were a little on the soft side, fine for loads <800fps, but not anything faster.

The powders you have should work fine though.

After I shoot through these I will probably buy some commercial cast bullets. They will be much harder and lead less at higher speeds. Also I have a product that is essentially liquid alox in a can. I plan to use that on the Hornady's to help mitigate excessive leading.

Not sure about DOB of my 30-1 but there is no J in the serial number and no diamond in the stock checkering. Can't these be loaded up to near .32 H&R velocities??

I've loaded some hotter .32 Long rounds for my Model 30, but for a carry load I'd recommend a factory-loaded .32 ACP hollowpoint.

The .32 ACP loads fire and extract fine from my S&Ws, and there are some decent JHP loads on the market.

The links to these PDF files, one is from Speer using their .32 auto Gold Dot bullet in the .32 S&W Long. The other is the pages from Speer No 10 manual on loading cast bullets for the .32 S&W Long. The Speer data is for solid frame pistols only, read the first page regarding the loads, esp the last couple paragraphs.

I've loaded 98gr lead RN using this data to shoot from a Colt Police Positive in .32 NP\S&W Long and its pretty warm. 3.5grs of Unique sent then down range at 998 fps. 3.2grs ran 868 fps.
