Regardless, This Extreme One of a kind Rarity is best displayed & appreciated with the Authentic Ivory Grips that are also included with this Museum Quality Firearm. Comments: BTW...Even the serial number is rather interesting in that it is still number 99166 viewed forward or backward, right side-up or upside down. $24,995 ..........Visit my website Wimer's Collectable Firearms auction# 138700509

Good price

It would be a good price for the seller, not the buyer.

Thanks, George, but no thanks. You fooled me once, you won't do it again.

aside from the price, but who am i to criticize another mans asking price, i just dont have to bid, he does seem to come up with some fascinating items.

Welcome to Wimer World! Good old George , God Love 'Em, can come up with the rarest guns ( according to George) ! And equally rare prices. But, if you know George and watch his play, you will see that guns eventually leave his inventory at reasonable prices. If you really want to add the S&W described above, to your collection, make him an offer that you can afford and chances are good you may be the new owner. George comes from a long line of gun dealers and knows the business, and also knows he can't make money until he sells something. If you do nothing but study his ads, you get an education in S&Ws! Ed.

So seeing as this piece left the factory basically 1/2 in the white and was later sent out for plating by a distributor, I don't really call this a true factory original piece. Now if Smith & Wesson itself had subbed out the gold plating and then had the pieces returned to the factory for fitting, inspection and packaging, I'd consider it a factory original piece.

What's being sold above doesn't have a true pedigree. Not a true enough lineage to command the asking price.

It's up to any buyer to determine what it's worth and hopefully if a buyer comes along he's knowledgable enough to know what he's getting and he feels it's worth it.

Wimer runs a curious "reverse" auction - he starts outrageously high and then decreases the price until someone bites.

Speaking of curious, has anyone ever purchased anything from him?If he is a business he has to turn some inventory to meet expenses. It appears he does not, just wondering.

When I was the gunsmith for REX we had a number of in the white guns Gold Plated at Fountain Plating In Springfield.
We also had some factory nickle ones plated Gold as well.:)

"Speaking of curious, has anyone ever purchased anything from him?"

I bought a .38-44 Outdoorsman from him in 1987 from his ad in ShotGun News. It was pricey but not outlandish and I never saw them for sale where I live.

I got it and later noticed that the .38 Special cylinder had been rechambered to .357 Magnum. I contacted him and he offered to give me a credit, not a refund, if I returned it.

I coughed up another $50.00 and got another Outdoorsman from him. Other than the rechambering, both guns were as described.

His prices have been high the entire time I have known of him, since the late 1970's/early 1980's, but they have gone crazy since.

He does come across a selection of very scarce and unusual S&W's.

Prices

A little off topic but it seems to me all Smiths are getting a little out of hand price wise these days, one of my local shops has a new Model 10 in the case for $750.00 before tax and DROS, flippin ridiculous!

George is a business. He moves a lot of stuff and is a big player in the game. I have seen some of the forum members deal with him at the shows and lots of money and paper changed hands and everyone was fine with that.

And yes, if you see a price that is unreal then it will probably be something George is selling.

This is my favorite George ad, it's been there for almost a year. I don't think he knows the difference between Champagne and beer.

Smith & Wesson 41 Magnum Model 58, 4" Inch Blue, Serial number N-271,043 ......99.9% Like new in the proper ERA Box. The price Was $1995..Sale....Now.... ****Comments: This won't last long at all. Don't miss the boat ! If you have Champagne Taste But a Beer-Budget then this is the Sale for You ! First come, First Served. The Champagne Quality Collectable Firearms I have for sale can't be beat for the Beer budget prices I am selling them for. Visit my website. Wimer's Collectable Firearms ****************** The Box is NOT the original box. Examine picture number 2 on Gunbroker. You will see that the Label is Serial numbered N187,946. The serial number of this model 58 is N271,043. There is also no Serial number on the inside of the right grip to this model 58. Yes, it is the proper grip & proper earlier serial numbered box. But the box is for sure not original to this pistol. There is only a piece of S&W paper in this box. The box interior is Factory dated April 15, 1955.
