Has anybody ever used one of these holsters?

Dillon Precision: Reloaders, Reloading Equipment, Bullet Reloading, Bullet Reloaders

I'm thinking about ordering one for my J frame. They are made by Mitch Rosen, and they are part of his "Express Line" of gunleather. He makes these for Dillon. I called and talked to a customer service rep yesterday. He said he owned one for a 1911 and loved it. Of course, I don't really think he would say it was a "bad" holster, since he works there. I just want one that holds the little revolver securely yet doesn't take 4 kindergarteners to help me draw the revolver from it. I also don't like mine to ride extremely high or have too much of a tilt like the Galco "Concealable" has.

I know that custom is probably the best way to go...I'm just not patient enough to wait. Dillon has these in stock - ready for delivery! :D

I have an "express line" for a Glock 27. Mine is a strait drop or neutral cant. It is a medium high ride, about like the Galco Concealable. It is very good quality. Mine was tight when I received it, but readily broke in with a days wear and drawing.

Mitch Rosen and Galco both have a silicone treatment to use on new holsters that works well and helps with the initial break in. I use it on all new leather holsters for the first day or two. I think it is better than the hot water and plastic bag trick.

The "express Line" is formed on both the front and back. The Galco Concealable or the El Paso Saddlery Crosshair are a flat back contoured construction and much more comfortable to me. They are also in the same price range.

You may want to give forum member Ray Cory of Lobo Gunleather a call and tell him exactly what you want. His times and prices are very reasonable, add glove or suede lining and you'll still be in the same price range.

And you'd be patronizing one of our members here who gives his advice freely....nothing like the personal touch....I don't own a holster that wasn't made by someone I actually spoke with...:)

I've had several of Rosen's Express holsters, though never one for a J-frame, and I think very highly of them. They're every bit as tough and well made as his full detail holsters, they're just not as nicely boned and molded. Before I started using snap holsters, the Rosens were my favorite pancake holsters precisely because they didn't ride too high and I found the cant to be just right. As I recall, they're pretty tight when new but a revolver may not be as tight.

I'd take an Express Rosen over a Galco every time, though I'm sure a Lobo holster made to your specs would be even better.

I have one for my G-19 and I love it.Like you I don't like high ride holsters and the draw is perfect in fact I loved so much that I ordered one for my G-26, well I needed help from two of my children to get the gun out.No problem with Dillon customer service I did got my money back.Just try and hope for the best

I'd say give our local guy Lobo a shot first. If you decide otherwise, Mitch Rosen is first class stuff all the way.

I've got a Mitch Rosen Express for my Ruger LCP and love it! It's the 1 marketed on the Ruger website so it even has their logo on the front. Nice classy looking holster, very comfortable and holds the gun firm but not too tight.

I believe any well boned leather holster will be tight and take some breaking in. I do not remember any of my holsters not needing some break in.

It seems to go with the wonderful smell and creaking /squeaking of new leather. It is something that you know will go away in a day or so. A one or two time silicone treatment with Galco or Rosen's product, or others, works and makes those first few draws tolerable.

I bet Ray Cory is following this thread and has advice with the break in. I was out of silicone treatment and used the plastic bag for an overnight break in of my Lobo holster.

I have them for Commander-size 1911s and 4" K-frame. Very high quality for the price. They will likely start out tight, but proper application of the waxed-paper routine and/or use of Rosen Leather Lightning will fix that easily.
