Anyone else fed up with Subway?

I had my first & only "Waffle House" experience earlier this year....

the pork chops were so thin you could read through them too....

but the bacon somehow was sliced so much thinner it only had ONE side!!!!

I have found the local Subways are well run, give good value for the money but where possible I prefer local operations, many here in NJ are still run by paysans.

In my part of NC the Subways prepare a sub that looks like the picture. In fact some of the subs are to big to bite. I have always been pleased with their product and service.

The mound of lettuce, hate that. I do as stated here a few times, I go to locally owned places instead.

It's the franchise thing. There's one near my work that is slim on the sandwiches.
The one near our high school piles it on.
I still like the local places though.

It wasn't the food that drove me away from Subway - it was the appearance of the employees. I walked into my neighborhood Subway and they had the dirtiest, scabby human I ever saw handling food - I almost threw up as I ran out the door. I haven't been back to one since.

We were in one in Virginia Beach. The sole guy working there put his plastic gloves on to make the subs for the person in line ahead of us. When he was finished, he pulled his gloves off inside out to ring up the purchase. Then as he turned to us to make our sandwiches, he started to put the same gloves back on inside out! We said, "Hey! Put new gloves on, would ya??"

At least at Subway you can keep an eye on the food handlers.

When I was a kid I worked in a meat dept in a little mom and pop grocery. When customers asked us to slice the meat or cheese very thin we called it the " company cut ". Our Subways around here are pretty good but if there is one close I prefer the honey mustard chicken at Quiznos.

We have a great little gas station about 15 miles down 67 highway in Zion . Their deli sandwiches are 4" thick and cost $2.50 and they sell a ton of them ever day.

When in St. Louis I buy Penn. Station sub's Hmmm GOOD!:p

OK, I'm hungry, I think I'll stop at White Castle for breakfast.

Heck, I'm not going to eat any of that greenie tree huggin' crap.

Give me a ham sandwich with ham and cheese mayo and horseradish on it on good old fashioned bleached white bread- no greenery for me! :p I do like a good tomato and onion on it, but only if they are fresh and not store-bought. If it is healthy, it don't belong on a ham sandwich.

If I want fiber and low fat, I'll get a salad.

However,

Since they are franchised the quality and quantity vary greatly. My wife and I found that out traveling as it was one of the healthier fast food places to eat.

But let me tell you about the one in central PA a couple of years ago. The young man made me a really nice full meaty sandwich and when I was about to pay for it the manager/owner ran in and yelled at him for putting too much meat on it and proceeded to rip my sandwich apart and throw the meat in the trash can. I told him to keep the @#&*(* sandwich and walked out of the place. I believe it was in Lititz.

I always preferred Quizno's... too bad two different Quizno's franchises in my town both failed. Fortunately, we have Penn Station subs. They make one hell of a Reuben.

Oh....
never mind.
I thought you were buyin' lunch.

I'd just about given up on sub shop subs. Then a few months ago this Egyptian emigrant couple moved into our area and opened up a sub/gyro/pizza shop. The subs and gyros are great and the pizza is OK. Said they came from NYC and these are NYC style subs.

I try to avoid Subway.

subway is actually healthy food. If you leave off the mayo and cheese it is only a 400 calorie salad-- er sandwich. Quizino's on the other hand is terrible. I would rather be hungry than eat there!

i gave up on subway after seeing the u-tube video putting uhhhhh...extra things on the subs..this was in NC...they were not very good in any event
