This is one I just did this evening on a 442.
I darkened it to match the gun using some Birchwood-Casey cold bluing and then used just a tad of 3M adhesive to seal the pin hole to keep out minute dust & lint as this is a CCW (Yes, it stays loaded with Gold Dots). Once that cures tomorrow, I will smooth it down. I like the plug so much better than that ugly IL. Took it outside a little while ago and gave it a "test drive". All is well in the bayou country. :)

I plan to install one in my 617 this weekend. I will post pictures as soon as I do. I just wanted to say that the service was great. I had it in just a couple of days. I will probably be getting a couple more real soon.

Here's my "plugged" 617 and 686; The flash makes the stainless plug stand out more than it shows up when actually looking at it.

Bullseye,

I don't own a single IL revolver. But your efforts are outstanding... it's good to know that if I ever lapse and buy one of the da**ed things that there IS a solution at hand!!!!

Bullseye should have been awarded the Nobel Prize - the plug is a real accomplishment!!!!

I understand this is Bulleyes thread, but here is my "plug".

However, it's not a plug at all, it's a stainless steel screw. There are no lock parts at all in my rmodified guns. The instructions for your gun to have a screw installed are in the smithing section. It's easy to do and the results are fully reversable for the people that desire such a devise.

I done a few of these at work for the IL haters. Steel, brass or stainless steel in torx or slotted screws, all for whatever the owner desires.;) I personally like the slot the best.

The "wart" is gone.

Here's one of John's plugs in a 642.

A Plug for the Plug

This is my 617 with it's new plug. Next time I take it apart for a detailed cleaning I will get rid of the arrow and L. I like it:D.

I can't understand why somebody hasn't made a thumb piece that covers the lock hole. It wouldn't have to be much bigger than the thumb piece we have now and itwould look sharp and elimnate a lot of work after you ground the nub off the flag.

Mike when my machine work gets that good I will make one and you can have the first one. Don't hold you breath on it :D .

a question . . .

John, I have a standard stainless 629 and 329 Nightguard (dull black scandium frame) that I'd like to "plug" somehow. Your device seems like a great option.

My question is, I've already neutered the 629, so ALL of the lock guts are out of it, and the big empty hole stares out at me. Do I need to put some/most of the guts back in to install your plug?

What part(s) does it replace?

Thanks

To answer the above question: The only parts you'll need are the fork and its spring. The Plug replaces the lock cylinder/cam. You can leave the flag and its tiny, "always fail" spring out, or put them back in to fill the slot. I left mine out. You may notice the faint drag mark on the left side of the hammer on my 625, above. That was made by the flag, so I have removed a source of unnecessary friction.

Prosecutors and tort attorneys take note.

I know... I know...

No lawyer would EVER make an issue of a disabled safety device.

Would he?

Thanks

So, the "fork" holds the plug in place?

Not a problem.

I carry a Sig, Seecamp, or one of the new NO-lock 642's . . . none of which have IL's.

My Smith's are "sporting handguns". Wish we didn't have to even think about this crap!

Yes. Here's a pic of the fork, doing just that:

Oh, and as for the "lawyers wouldn't..." comment, what I won't do is carry a self-defense tool that I know to be a defective product. I view the IL as an inherently dangerous product defect, to use the correct legal terminology.

Thanks very much HD . . .

Helps a lot to see it. Pretty creative little solution!

With apologies - I came in late on the thread and its related content. Is a forum member making the plugs for sale? Thanks, Howard
