I have a M15 and a M29 that need some work. The M15 was screwed up by another 'smith and now pushes off. The M29 will not fully cycle through on one cylinder, even in dry fire. I could send them to S@W, but would rather visit in person. Anybody know any good trustworthy 'smiths in Iowa?

Hey that reminds me -- when's the last time we heard from Iowegan? I haven't seen him post in a long time, and he used to be a regular. This sounds like a request right up his alley.

Not Iowa, but Cylinder & Slide in Fremont Neb. is excellent, about 70 miles south of Sioux City

Based on my experience last year, having S&W do the work will get it done in a month or so, versus 6-8 months at a quality independent gunsmith.

I have heard of this fellow and am thinking about having him work on my model 15. I don't know anything about him. He is in Charles City, Iowa you might want to check him out.

I had Mike Gish (ProGun) doing a lot of work for me, but the FBI hired him and moved him to VA. So I am looking too! - gene

How far north and east are you in IA? There is a good smith north of Decorah. If interested, PM me for contact info.

You might call up Mike Watkins at Brownell's. He is one of the smiths who answer technical questions for them, on the "tech line." Mike used to live here, is a personal friend of mine, and does wonderful work on S&Ws, if he is still taking in gun work. If he is not, he might give you the name of another good gunsmith in Iowa. Tell Mike that John LeVick sent you.

I just spoke to Mike Watkins. Mike no longer takes in outside gunsmithing work on any regular basis, and tells me that he personally knows of no revolver smiths in Iowa. Sorry to be of no help.

Kansas City

There is a very well known guy here in KC that tunes/builds a fair number of the local PPC/Bianchi S&Ws. I am not sure how much break/fix he does or if he is interested.

Shoot me a pm and I will forward it to him.

It is not IA, but did not sound like anyone was getting closer.
