They have them listed on there website but when I wrote and asked about one I received an email saying they weren't available ? Why would they have them on the site then?

Are you looking at them in the section marked "Law Enforcement, Military and Government", with the warning stat reads, "Note: Certain firearm models and configurations in this section are not available to the general public"?

LOL .. oh the small print geez come on. I have the attention span of a gnat of course i didn't read that!

So follow up question .. why would they limit it to LEO. There is nothing that I can see that makes them special in any way. If it were they olny want to make them in larger runs I would have to think there would be enough sales in the non LEO market.

They aren't limited to the LE/Gov market for any reason except the price and who is willing to pay for them. They dropped them from the commercial market when they stopped selling well enough to support making them a manufacturing focus. Manufacturing costs are much higher than plastic framed guns and customers weren't willing to spend the money to make them profitable. The TSW's are mostly made for LE orders, although some overruns are typically made each time some of them are run to fill an order. If one of the major wholesale distributors were willing to place an order for enough units the company would likely schedule them a production run, but they'd cost just as much to the consumer as the higher line Sig Sauer pistols cost, if not a little more.

The new M&P pistol series can be made inexpensively enough to make them competitive in both commercial and LE/Gov markets.

The SW1911 market is primarily a commercial venture, much as it is for other 1911 makers, since LE doesn't buy them in significant numbers.

I've been conversing with our area's S&W LE rep. this week and asked about those. He indicated that if a department placed a 50+ pistol order they'd probably do it but it would take quite a few pistols.

He also stated that sometimes if departments like CHP or RCMP place a large order, S&W will make a few extra and then sell them off in small quantities.

Check with your local fraternal police organization, sometimes as a fundraiser they will place an order from S&W. Also check with security companies. Some government contracts stipulate authorized firearms. Recently a local private security company received a contract that limited them to steel 40 cal S&W guns. He ended up ordering extra guns to make a minimum purchase and later sold the extras for a very healthy profit with a local dealer.

Was that at Streichers? I have been trying to get my hands on a new CS9 for a while through them.

Not exactly, I spoke directly with the rep. inquiring about trading in current PD pistols for M&Ps. I then just happened to ask about the TSWs as I too had seen them on the LE portion of the S&W site.

I'm not positive that the TSWs wouldn't come through Streicher's, I assume they would as the M&Ps do but I didn't hammer that out because the TSWs would be quite expensive. I was just asking out of curiousity.

If you want to know contact info for the rep. just call S&W and I'm pretty sure they'd tell you. That's all I did. I imagine you have access to many more officers/deputies than I do so you could get the exact minimum and then do a group buy.
