Replacing the factory barrel nut with an aftermarket barrel nut ($22).

It goes well with a M16 barrel nut + delta ring assembly ($16)

A Clamp on front sight/gas block from BB gun ($35)

Cap it with a barrel shroud (fake suppressor) $10

One problem though, it does leave a samll 1/4" gap between the receiver and the barrel nut assembly.
Any suggestion how to hide this?

Im a hillbilly at heart, So id be searching for a large bushing or rubber doughnut.

What front site did you use? Are there any ar15 style or barrel mounted sites that will fit the 15-22?

Rip,

I tried the Fixed Iron Sight off my Airsoft M4 and the barrel diameters are not close. If one had access to a machine shop, spacer rings could easily be machined out of alloy. If you want to do this the way a real AR front sight is mounted you will need to mount the front sight where you need it (need to figure out the spacing between the Delta Ring and the hand guard end cap and then the actual barrel needs to have two pin slots milled or drilled through it so the pins can be hammered in the iron sight to secure it to the barrel. That's a permanent modification.

I didn't realize they were pinned, I guess that's not happening

Yep the real deal is pinned. I'm sure there are other ways, but the pin method ensures that it doesn't move, and when your hand guard is secured to the front sight via an end cap, I would want to make sure it couldn't work loose.

You can get a gas block from ebay >>Gas Block

I got mine from here Product Details

The clamp diameter is 0.75" but the 15-22 barrel dia. is 0.67" so I duct taped the 15-22 barrel to make it up to 0.75"
I plan to replace the duct tape with heat shrink tube or cut a strip from coke can as a shim.

I drill and tap a 3/32" hole in my gas block for a handguard front retainer plate.

I am still waiting for a red-dot scope which will be my primary sight so I am not too concern about front sight post drifting.
or lack of one.
Everything is reversible to the original.

since you can now remove your handguards to clean your barrel if you want to, any thoughts on using some red locktight to hold the barrel nut snug since you aren't torquing it to the same degree as on a standard AR? i can't imagine it happening but since your handguard isn't "free float" anymore i would think you'd want to torque it down further.:confused::confused:

another question, in the pic you posted of the 15-22 barrel retaining nut and the M16 nut, what did you use to tighten the M16 nut since i don't see anyplace to put a wrench.

looks awesome. i wish the 15-22 had the option to change handguards from the factory. i also wish it was metal. oh well, it's still a sweet little rifle.

Delta Rings are sprung with a multi layer leaf spring. I wouldn't think the Delta Nut would have to be tight, just threaded onto the barrel nut and then you just push back on the outer ring of the Delta to insert the upper and lower hand guards.

I used a strap wrench to tighten the new barrel nut.
Once it tightened it pretty stay tightened. I might use locktite glue in the furure though. Thanks for the suggestion.

As Brett248Vista mentioned, the delta ring is spring load so it is just hand tighten.
Inside the MOE handguard is notched in relation to the M16 barrel (star) nut. So that will take care with the timing/indexing.

How well does your front sight line up vertically with the factory site? is there any issue there of them not being the proper height? I'm guessing not but thought I'd ask anyway

Good qustion. Since it is a licensed copy of Vltor VST, I assumed that it would be dimensionally same as the Vltor VST.
The spec. said it replicates standard "F" base height.
I will try it with a factory rear sight this Sunday to confirm that.

After a box of CCI mini-mag HP, I can now confirm that the new front post height 1.98" is compatible with the A2 factory rear sight.
The average group is about 1" low and can be corrected with elevation adjectment.

So the fake supressor you have/linked to, slide right over the barrel? Its a do it yourself type of install?
Thanks
