Anyone carry a J Frame with a bobbed hammer?

I'm thinking about bobbing the hammer on my Model 36. I haven't carried a steel-frame J frame in a long time.

Most of the time, I carry a 642 in a pocket holster, or rarely in a Milt Sparks Summer Special.

Are the steel frames too much for a pants or jacket pocket?

I have a blue steel 49 in my pocket right now, it will be in there until I go to bed tonite, and tomorrow it will be in the same place....
I like the humpback no snag feature, if I had a hammer gun I would likely bob it to reduce snagging on the draw....

I've got a 360J with a 1/2 bobbed hammer that I carry all the time, it has worked fine me.

Out of curiosity, why would you wanted to bob the hammer on your 36 to carry it when you already have a 642 to carry? I don't see where the bobbed 36 will have any advantage over the 642.

i often tote a model 60 NY-1 in the pocket using a sfariland model 25 pocket holster.

Ditto except my M60 NY-1 is usually IWB when not OWB.

Before my NY-1, I had a M60 for which I swapped the standard hammer for a bobbed one.

Be safe.

PS:

I also tote a 642; weight difference is noticeable but not to the degree it precludes the carry of the 60.

I shoot steel J frames better 'n those made out of aluminum, scandium, titanium, kryptonite, plastic, uranium or whatever else they make 'em out of these days....it is what it is.....

I've carried a Model 60 with a bobbed hammer for over two years. Sometimes in the pocket (in a pocket holster) and sometimes IWB. Alot depends on the pants I'm wearing. Chino type pant are usually not a problem. I sometimes carry a 60-9 (hammer has not been bobbed). It has larger grip stock and doesn't carry as well in the pocket. The .357 J frame is a little larger than the .38 J frame too. I like the stainless heft over the alloy. But that's just me.

Yessir,

My wife carries a nickle M36 from 1966 that has a partially bobbed hammer. When we got it, it had a full bob. I think we have picks before the bob and I should be able to get a current tonight if I get a chance. We had the bobbed changed out to a partial bob just so there was something to pull fo SA if needed.

I already have a 642, but I was wondering how the 36 handled in a pocket in case the 642 is stashed somewhere else (or carried by someone else) which happens from time to time.

I hear some people complain about the extra weight but others actually prefer it.. comes down to preference, I guess, like all things.

I prefer the weight of the steel frame 36. When I carried my M36 I always carried in the pocket. Just have to wear a good tight belt with it and you should have no problems.

To bob, or not to bob, that is the question!

I faced the same dilema at one time when considering bobbing my Taurus 605. Well, I bobbed the thing and have never looked back. IMO single action fire is a waste of time on a combat revolver and a snagged hammer is just one more thing to go wrong. Since then I've neutered the hammer on my SP-101 and 360 PD and have no regrets whatsoever. I say bob it!

I carried a bobbed DAO 36 as a BUG while a LEO. Then my wife became an LEO and swiped it for her BUG.
I sulked for a while and then bought a 640-1 which is on my hip at the moment.
I finallly got the 36 back when the wife bought a 642 for EDC.

Recently I got old and frail and carry a 442 as much as I carry the 640-1. The 36 is in a desk drawer within easy arms reach at this moment.

I cut the hammer spurs off every small frame revolver I own (and most of my large frame revolvers too). I see hammer spurs on pocket guns as out of place and a huge liability.

I cut the spur off my 60 about 5 years ago. Most of the time I carry it IWB but sometimes in dress clothes I need a tucked in shirt and do front right pocket. It comes right out. I would do it again if I had to replace it.

My model 60 has a fully bobbed hammer

I had a gunsmith take the hammer down so that it can only be fired D/A. In comparison to the 442, the 60 is heavier and has less apparent recoil because of the weight difference.

My Model 36 is a partial bob. It was not planned that way. But, dropping it on the hard tile floor of the sheriff's department locker room partially bobbed it for me. It's been in the safe for years but I'm going to start carrying that gun again as soon as I get the cylinder back from the guy who reams the throats out to the correct diameter, and then if I have any snaging, it will become a full bob. Plan to try Crimson Trace LG-405 laser grips on it.
