If a few of you missed my barrel nut indecent, Ill quickly explain.
Two days ago after reading a post buy ChattanoogaPhil reminding people to check their barrel nuts, I was one surprised member to find my barrel able to move side to side 1/2" and the nut was loose as heck and spinning freely.

Ive never touched this part before so it is something you should check also if you haven't since S&W's plan for it staying in place isn't working.

I made the PVC tool in the sticky, But may buy a tool from one of our members made of steel since its alot stronger.
I also drew a line on my barrel where it meets the nut with Liquid paper so i could see if the nut ever turns on its own again. Mostly it wont since i bathed it in blue Locktite.

Why im actually writing this post is due to what i was in the middle of when the loose nut happened. I was testing ammo and D-rocks accuriser for accuracy of the 15/22.

Prior i was having consistency issues and over all large groups.
Today i went back to finish or start over what i had begun.
I first found out D-Rocks accuriser should be tested in small batches and not used on mid grade and high end ammo.
I say small batches as it has a tendency to cause feeding issues, This can be adjusted tho.
But it makes mid grade and high end ammo less accurate. But does help cheap bulk stuff.

Now the important stuff.
I shot my 15/22 with a Centerpoint 4-16x40 scope against my Savage 93BTV17 .17HMR at 50 yards.
The ammo on the .17 doesn't matter much as it all is about the same stuff and very accurate.
But for the 15/22 i used Aguila Match Rifle 40gr subsonic and Wolf 40gr Match Extra subsonic.

The results aren't scientific, As i don't work that way.
But the .17HMR did win but only by a hair. I was shooting 5 shot groups on the .17 and 10 shot groups on the 15/22 but it was amazingly close.
The .17 averaged sub 1" groups and the 15/22 was 1" groups with some consideration given to 10 shot groups.
So close im questioning my decision of buying the .22lr bolt action i had planned in 2 weeks.
The .17 has a 1.5lb hair trigger and the 15/22 is about 2lb's and a 3mm pull so that makes accuracy harder without more practice.

So imo the 15/22 can run with bolt actions if you use to right target ammo and have a great trigger and practice with it.

In all honestly i thought the 15/22 had no chance of even coming close to the accuracy of the .17, But i was wrong.
I don't think it will win a competition against my buddies Anschutz .22lr, But i know i can make him sweat.

I know i ramble and jump subject wise but i just explained that the 15/22 is as accurate as a bolt action target gun, No comments on that?

Can you show some photo of the 15-22's group?

Just for you i went out and dug them from my trash can, And even posted the .17HMR's targets.
I cut off the 2 top targets as i dont couldnt them as i was using bulk ammo and sighting the 15/22 in, Thats why you see the 2 additional targets at the bottom, But rest assured the 15/22 made those holes.

Also you will notice the groups got better from top too the bottom, Thats me getting used to the heavier trigger. With practice it should be able to match the .17's groups at 5o yards.
Also remember the 15/22 i used 10 shot groups since it will hold it, My .17 only holds 5.

Dont like my pics? Come on we all like pics!

Just a question.
As you know i own the .17HMR and 15/22 and really the .17 isnt much more expensive to shoot at the range when your buying mid and high end .22lr ammo.
But should i keep pushing my 15/22 or go ahead with my plans of buying a Savage .22lr bolt action or a CZ for accuracy shooting.

If i do that the 15/22 wont see as much action like my MKIII 22/45 Ruger doesn't as im always testing my 15/22 against my .17HMR

I can only shoot so many guns at one time is what im getting at, And ive really been on the accuracy kick.

Although I feel like the accuracy of my 15-22 is above par standard, It wouldn't be my go to gun for an accuracy match. I have a couple of bolt action rifles that would be ranked first.

I bought the 15-22 for a fun day at the range and plinking enjoyment.

Always reminds me of a friend who purchased a 3" compact .40 cal for personal protection. Now all i hear is how it won't group very well at 20 yards. Moral of the story is the compact was built for up close personal protection and not accuracy thus the reason guns all have their own purpose.

I wish this guy would shut the heck up already!

DF, everyone is too busy hanging stuff on their 15-22's to respond. Great shooting , those Smith's really perform.
I'm pickin' one up tonite, you really put me over the edge.;) May add a reddot sight, that's about it.

Hey Mike, I'll be sending a Shooboy ShooWrench out to you, just because you are a cool dude !!! Should have more ready to go this weekend, that is if my welder returns alive from Florida on Friday !!! Shoo

Ill give the local shops a once over for a good deal on a Savage or CZ bolt action. I found one yesterday a Savage MKII BTV used for $299 which i feel is way overpriced for a used gun.
I only paid $329 for my 93BTV17 and it had the cheap scope package.

I know some of the 15/22's targets in the pics don't look perfect, But consider the trigger and time it takes to get used to it.
Also the shooter, Im only using my ammo box as a rest, My shoulder as the rear rest so alot of accuracy can be lost without a true bench rest.
I think im gonna pick one up soon, But i don't really like shooting from them since its not the way to learn to be more accurate with your weapon. It just shows its real accuracy.
Once i add one the longer pull the 15/22 trigger has wont be a big factor like it is now.

BTW my barrel nut stayed in place for a few hundred rounds with the LockTite bath.

Ladder13- you wont regret buying the gun, I haven't met many people online who have. Also be ready for endless attention and questions at the range with it, It really stands out

I like mine so well i took my most favorite scope and put it on the 15/22 since i shoot it 75% of the time at the range.
My 15/22 gets a 4-16x40 CenterPoint scope.
My Savage 93BTV17 .17HMR wich is more accurate gets the lesser power 3-9x40 Higher end Nikon Buckmasters.
Yeah, I know i like a $70 scope better than a $200 scope. But i just wanted to show how much i like the gun myself.

Its not the most accurate i own.
Not the most expensive gun.
Definitely not the most powerful.
At times looks like i raided a Mall ninja's bedroom and stole all his accessories.
And now im shooting for accuracy alot its not even the cheapest to shoot.
But you better bet when i go to the range its the first bag i pack.
My poor Ruger MKIII thats way tricked out with internal and external mods has only been to the range twice and maybe has 200 rounds threw it as i cant put the 15/22 down long enough.
